heaviest carbon shaft...

just thought of something from another post....

what are the heaviest carbon shafts?? id like pure carbon....spine would be for 60-70lbs(forget exact spine..just looking to see whats out there...i can play with spine after i find a shaft) also dont particularly care for camoed carbon shafts...usually noisey and hides cracks and spinters...and i shoot too much i wear labels off my shafts let alone camo...

i know my CX terminator XP selects are 10.6gpi...bout one of the heavier ones out there...id like something a few more GPI heavier...but dont think theres much out there...?? might have to go to a alumanum?? what kinda GPI can i find on a thick walled alumanum??? 13-15GPI or so sounds nice off the top of my head...bare shaft...but heavier might work....so post what you know of...

Is it Carbon Tech that makes the Hippo's?

Try muzzy Gator getters. They go around 2300 grains. It should shoot through a deer or bunny.

13-15 GPI I don't think is going to happen with straight carbon. My MFJ 300's only go 12 GPI. Carbon Express Aramids, with the Kevlar, only go 9.8 GPI for the heaviest ones. I think you are left with adding weight tubes if you want something that heavy.

I shoot some Carbon Express, I think they are HunterSelects and they weigh 11.5 grains per inch in the 45/60 size.

hmmm i could go the weight tube route need be...my shafts already weigh 10.6gpi...got lots of options to get my weight up and boost FOC with insterts....but i'll have to stiffen the spine up...with the QAD i aughta beable to trim an inch or so of shaft...

just thought i might have overlooked a heavier shaft....guess to get heavier, the spine will be way to heavy for anything but a 100lb bow...

Too much spine....for bowhunting shot distances for MOST ....is not a bad thing.

I use GT 5575 with weight tubes and have the shafts at 670 grains. I could use the 100 grain brass inserts and steel adapter and really get them up there, but I would run into spine issues.

Being overspined I don't think is too much of a problem for broadhead shooting at reasonable distances. Underspined, yes, big problems for tuning. You could always use a brass insert to boost FOC and overall weight if that is what you are concerned with. Lots of options out there.

thanx guys...

Bob, no change of spine with JUST weight tubes??? thats always been my fear is they will change the spine or not fly the same from every arrow or something...

i know being overspined isnt bad....but im already sitting on overspined arrows....fly great...but i was just saying to make a heavier carbon, the arrows would be WAY too stiff...and if i add weight up front it will drop me to "ideal" and weak real quick....so to add weight up front im looking to trim the shaft to stiffin it back up....

50gr inserts and 3gpi weight tubes sounds like the ultimate arrow...with 125-150gr 2blade heads...on top of 10.6gpi...LOVE my XP selects..shoot great and tough as can be....just looking for a bit more weight...

never know when an elephant is gunna charge ;)

wont be working on this till AFTER the season....but i like planning and crunching numbers and working out compenent stuff early....try not to overlook options and try to get it all right the first time...im gunna end up with about 20 shafts setup like this...i want it all to be right the first time around...

Easton Axis FMJ 340'sweigh11.3gpi and the 300 spine weigh 12gpi.

The Alaska Bowhunting grizzly sticks weigh anywhere from17 to 21 gpi for 400 and 300 spine range.

Bob, no change of spine with JUST weight tubes???
It didn't changedeflection for me at all. Others have actually measured the deflection with and without the tubes. No difference.

But adding weight on the front or back of the arrow will change spine characteristics of the arrow.

thanx bob! sounds like i'll be getting some weight tubes after this season...too close to tinker now.....and my muzzys might fold up with that kinda weight behind them;) :D

i know adding to the front and back will change the spine characteristics...just thought the weight tubes would stiffen them up for some season.....
