Fastest Kill Ever?
I took a doe Saturday evening at 7:55 P.m. in Gerorgia and she went 30 yards and piled up. This morning I shot a huge (225 lbs.) 4 point and he only went 8 yards and expired within 15 seconds. How can this be possible? The arrow went through the heart and lungs but I've hit many deer the same way and they normally go 30 or more yards and crash. How is this possible?

Every deer Is different. I've hit allot of mine In the same exact spot and some haven't gone 50 yards but the next one goes 100 yards. Who knows!;)

You shot a 225 lb. 4 pt. in Florida? I shot a doe from the ground last year at 30 yards..she crashed through a 20 yard wide thicket in a few seconds and fell over dead immediately. I have never seen anything like it. |
RE: Fastest Kill Ever?
With a bow about 30 yds and within a minute or so it was over with..
But one gun hunt years ago I walked into the woods and sat down without climbing my stand because I could use leaves moving around. About 15 min. when the sun came up there was a nice buck standing on the edge of the woods. I took my shot and he didn't even move, just fell over.. I got the truck and backed up to him and loaded him and off I went.. Quickest kill and Quickest hunt... |

RE: Fastest Kill Ever?
I hit one right through the heart at 29 yards and it never knew it was hit.He just walked about 10 yards and weebled and wobbled and then fell down. A nice clean pass thru.
Another big buck I hit ran up a hill after the shot and came crashing down the hill from whence it came. He took out all kinds of small trees and shrubbery while rolling down the hill. It all took place in about 30 seconds. Mostvoilent kill I have seen to date. The bucks seem to go down with a vengeance... |

A lot of it has to do with the state and whether or not the deer is relaxed, feeding, under stress or alarmed.

I think in the case of double lung shots some of how far a deer can travel has to do with the level of O2 in the blood at the time of the shot. (Also known as did the deer just take a breath)
Picture yourself running as fast and as far as you can after just having taken a deep breath and hold it. NOw do the same thing after just exhaling without the ability to take another breath and see how far you make it.[:-] CO2 levels build up in the blood very quickly and is what causes the involuntary need to take your next breath. If you didn't you'd pass out and die. :D So given how fast a deer can run it's not out of the relm of possibility to assume they can make it further after just having inhaled a breath and lowering that Co2 level in their bloodstream. The quickest one I have ever seen was an absolute perfect 12 ring double lung shot I made on a buck in WV a few years back. I center punched him at 35 yards and he had no idea he'd been shot at , just stood there and took it. The arrow hit him, 2 seconds later he sprung straight up in the air on all 4 legs and landed on his back kicked once and that was that. HE never traveled a single yard and I stood in my stand with this look on my face. [:-] |

I shot a small buck when I was young, probably 15 yards broadside, and he never knew he was hit. He took three calm steps and fell over. I've heard that isn't uncommon with double bladed broadheads.

[align=left]I think if you hit the lungs when they are fully exhaled can have something to do with it. Then they cant take one last breath. Probably just someone pulling my leg, but who knows. Kinda makes sense in a medical kind of way. :)

RE: Fastest Kill Ever?
SHot a doe at 7yds and basically stuck her to the ground. I'll never forget it....because she bawled when she got hit. She tried to get up and I stuck her again.....and it was over in a few mere seconds. She never went a yard.

RE: Fastest Kill Ever?
I have double lung shot deer where I've basically severed the arteries off the top of the heart and they ran for 20-30 yards and dropped dead. How long do you think it takes a deer to run 30 yards? A fast human can run 40 yards in 4.5 seconds. I've seen deer die in less than 4 seconds from a broadhead, chest shots not head shots.

RE: Fastest Kill Ever?
I dont believe a thing without pictures!
I, however, shot a doe last year which ran for about 5 seconds only then piled up, 50 yards. Pretty cool!:D |
