Very impressed with the G5's
Well I have been trying to pick up the Slick Tricks but no one carries them around here....I wanted to get a new head that I can easily go to the store and buy in a pinch....picked up the G5's at Gander Mountain and shot them this morning after re-nocking all of my arrows.
They flew extremely well time and time again. They are expensive but they sure moved fast and were on the target faster than I can remember any other fixed head I have shot! And they were quiet...... |

only problem is they come out of the package about as sharp as a butter knife. Takes some work to get an decent edge on them.

I've never really sharpened blades before---just bought replacement blades all of these years on my Muzzy's. What is a good sharpener goherd?

i like them and they fly very true but out of my bow they hiss

RE: Very impressed with the G5's
they sell a montec diamond stone sharpener that supposedly works pretty well on them. I sharpen my strikers with the G5 sportsmans stick, and cant complain. It does the trick.

so wahoo---you have shot them right out of the box and it made a good clean pass through on a deer?

Thanks guys for the info on these broadheads. I will just use 3 for practice and 3 for the woods. The blades will remain sharp.

Just got some strikers this weekend. I won't be shooting them until next weekend when I get my new bow. I have to tell you, they're razor sharp. Not sure why you guys are having problems with dull blades.

FYI - if you change your mind, you can get Slick Tricks from Cabelas, or like I did, directly from Slick Trick. www.slicktrick.net.

Exactly what i was going to say, I asked G5 about it.. They say the Montec is designed more to be like a meat cleaver vs a razor blade.. Very strong and lots of tissue damage..
They can be sharpened quite a bit with the sharpner made my G5.. I shot them for a while and didn't care for the "hiss", otherwise a good head.. I much prefer the Striker though.. I have nothing negative to say about the Striker... ORIGINAL: TEmbry ORIGINAL: goherd1111 only problem is they come out of the package about as sharp as a butter knife. ORIGINAL: virginiashadow so wahoo---you have shot them right out of the box and it made a good clean pass through on a deer? of course, a couple times at a target to make sure they were flying true, but yes other than that |
