HEY New York bow hunters
I wanted to start a post to help out NY bow hunters. I’m from central NY, and I am in need of some information from the locals. Last year was my first bow season, and I found it to be 100% different and better than our regular season. Deer are actually moving about calmly. During the regular season all you have to do is set up at a funnel where the deer pass through as they run from one hellfire to the next. Lets share some info on what we see in our neck of the woods, prior to and during our bow season. Not day to day stuff, but a general observation of change. Examples: Deer hitting the apples or acorns? Did the trees stop producing? Farmers harvesting corn…more deer activity? Scrapes and rubs Rut activity List your plan for the season |
RE: HEY New York bow hunters
howdy from the catskills!.
![]() ![]() ![]() overflowing with deer here!,the antler restriction program is starting to pay some nice dividends!! as for a game plan, same as every year.treestands set to nosebleed altitude, old apple orchards, stands of white oaks, field edges at dusk, return trails pre-dawn.weekend 3-d shoots keep the skills up. hiking around setting stands and cameras help get the legs built up . now if the deer cooperate, this year will be as great as last year was![]() |

Right now the acorns are falling there. Jumped one deer feeding on them squirrel hunting. I haven't seem many deer this year let alone fawns. Oct 11th can't wait.:D |

RE: HEY New York bow hunters
I live in southern Dutchess county and hunt here, Putnam and Westchester counties.
I went to set up my trail cameras up this weekend here in Dutchess Saturday and I saw the first tree rub of the year! I set my camera up on the trail and I hope to see who made it. I'll post pics of anything next week after I pick it up. |
RE: HEY New York bow hunters
I am just north of Syracuse here in Phoenix. Border of Oswego and Onondaga counties. By the time bow starts here all the acorns have usually fallen and a good amount of the wild apples as well. The fawns are losing their spots, the bucks are shedding the velvet and the winter coats are coming in. I have been seeing a lot of deer. Should be a good season.
