No, never applied. I've seen more wild cattle in pens. Cheap meat though if you get drawn.

I apply every year. The places where you see all the elk walking around in town aren’t open to hunting. Most everyone I talk to says trying to hunt them in the areas that they can be hunted isn’t as easy as most think.

I apply, but don't get drawn. I know some folks that have cabins up in PA elk country and they are still wild animals. It's not like hunting them out west though.

I'm too cheap to pay the $10 for the chance to be drawn.

Not according to any of my coworkers who work in the area. Wild, hardly.

So why aren't they wild? Is it a restoration program like Minnesota has? We have two very small herds that were reintroduced decades ago in the far nothern part of the state and that they have limited hunts on to control destruction to farmland, etc. Sounds like the rifle hunters are usually very successful. I've always thought it would be interesting to get drawn and try archery tackle.

I know a guy who has a cabin up there and is a guide for people during the elk season. From everything he has told me, they are pretty damn tame.

I read the article on one getting caught up in horse bridles/lead lines on his rack in the PA Game News. They had photos of it walking right into a Construction site, and right up to the workers (who were seeking refuge on top of their skid steer:D). I couldn't say if this is how ALL of the Elk behave in PA, or where they hunt them for that matter, but this bull was certainly not phased by people.
