48lb bow shooting rage broadheads.......

I read a story in Peterson Bowhunting where the writer used a Hoyt (not entirely sure which Hoyt, maybe a vectrix) set at 48lbs with rage broadheads. I guess I was surprise by such as low poundage bow shooting mechanicals? Do others think that 48lbs out of any bow is sufficient?

If it successfully sends the arrow through the deer then it is fine--if not, no

the marketting "word" at least on the back of a Peterson's bowhunting I read last night, and quoted from Chuck Adam's says that Rage doesn't waste KE opening the blades, not sure how this is possible, I see how they are 100% open before the blades hit the animal, but they still take movement to open.

I am thinking of trying them on deer, out of 65 lbs, heard lots of good about them.

You know that they will expend at least some energy opening upon impact, but not nearly as much at the over the top mechanicals. I am using the 3 blade rage out of my 82nd set at 64# this year. Maybe I am just using old thinking that you should use a "decent" draw weight when using a mechanical?

48 lbs and Rage is a big red flag to me.

Tiffany shots 54lb and 3 blade rages and she has pass thru's on most of her deer.

I like to think I'm preparing for the worst when I cite 60#'s as "my" cutoff/comfort level (FP's of KE).

In saying that.....I admit to having no knowledge if lower KE is an issue,or not.....but I agree with Rob.

I was wondering the same thing a while back, so I actually picked up the phone and called Rage.

The person I visited with said that they recommend a minimum of a42lb draw weight...

I mentioned KE a couple of times but the just kept going back to the draw weight. Guessing it's a lot easier to have a 'basic' draw weight to tell people than the amount of recommended KE...

48 lbs....not for sure you would be able to get enough KE to get a pass through. of course with a rage as long as you still got decent penetration it should still be a kill.

Me myself. Not gonna even try it.
