Something I Sometimes Forget, Batteries.

Just a friendly reminder, batteries.

Some of you rangefinder users might want to consider installing fresh batteries for your laser rangefinder. I know they last a while in them but I'd hate to have a failure. I'm reminding myself as well.

Also, flashlights, it's best to have some spares.

Anything else?

A dragging rope if you have to pull them a distance to get to a pick up point.

I changed the bat in my rangefinder last week, and I store a spare in the case. Check your GPS units, and if you would happen to have a light on your sight, check those as well. As Rob eluded to, there would be nothing more frustrating that for something to not work because I didn't think of something as simple as a damn battery.

Cameras eat batteries when its cold, I keep my camera in an oldwool mitten with one of those paper hand warmers.
Of course you fair weather guy would not understand hunting in snow.;)

I prefer to have a head lamp. It allows you to have two free hands. The LED light uses little juice and lasts forever. I went over 4 years of camping and 2 of hunting and didn't have to replace them (I did just out of safety sake though). We're talking HOURS of light in warm and cold weather. And for those that don't have a four wheeler to drag the deer out of the woods, it's nice to see where you're walking while dragging.

I see AT LEAST2 flashlights there. Thought there was a third, but then I realized it's a tri pod of some sort. I'm guessing mace in the one case. What's in the other? TP is good, but when I'm at camp w/ no shower for a few days, I take a few baby wipes for freshness.

+1 I use my cabelas head lamp and it's one of the best purchases I have made. It allows me in the pitch black of the morning to have both hands free i.e. for climbing up my stand.

First aid kit. If there is a way for me to hurt myself, I will find it!

Thanks for the heads up Rob :)I never really think of needing them in the range finder but they are batteries and they dont last forever. My son found this out with his headlamp the other day while water fouling. He got the check batteries before you go nextime talk :D

If any of you guys use a sight light, you might check those. They can start to fade over time instead of just not turning on. You might not even realize it's losing power.

5 flashlights and a spotlight in there. The TP is for marking blood trails. That's my tracking kit.

I guess Matt and I won't need to bring any of that...LOL, just my Streamlight pen to get in and get out. ;)

You folks need to look into one of these lights! I picked one up last season and never looked back. This is my tracking/field dressing light. The one I have recharges from the power outlet in my truck. I never have to worry about batteries for it, its light weight. The one I got has 32 led's, for under $20.00. Next best thing I have purchased since my thermacell!;)

snacks and water!!! There is nothing worse than sitting in a stand hungry or thirsty. Especially on the all day hunts during the peak of the Rut, or maybe I am just the fat kid that thinks about food all the time!!!! lol

Rob, great reminder. Not sure I ever even thought to check on the Range Finder. It's in there and I use it but honestly just sorta forgot about that one.

RE: Something I Sometimes Forget, Batteries.

Good reminder, Rob.

I changed out the batteries in EVERYTHING I had before leaving for Colorado... Alarm clock, camera, both flashlights, rangefinder, and GPS.

I also carried four fresh, brand-new AA batteries with me at all times in my fanny pack, and had a monster pack of extra AA's from Sam's Club in my big duffel back at the tent from which to reload with. :)I ended up changing the batteries in my camera 3-4 times, even though I didn't use it that much just due to the temps being in the upper 20's when we'd wake up in the morning...

I also changed out the ones in my GPS a couple times because I leave it on constantly as I'm slipping through the mountains; I love the security of knowing EXACTLY where I am in relation to already-marked waypoints. And, yes... I do carry a top-of-the-line compass with me as well just in case. Had to end up using it one day to make it out due to some inclement weather and the inability for my unit to track satellites.

I am always so jazzed to get out in the woods I am bound to forget a thing or two. I have a list that I keep and check before I leave to make sure I have everything I need. I have been known to drive back to the house to get my bow... [:@]
