what a day greatest day in the woods yet.

well me and my dad took my ladder stand down to the fish and wildlife area to hang it.

We got it in and hang quickly i had not yet walked the creek all the way so we walked back down the creek line.
We get about 50 yards from my stand maybe 75 and find a leg bone.
We walk alittle more and find a hip and leg bone.
Another 10 yards we find a rack skull intact. With the backbone and rib cage. The rack was a 8 point with large points. one of the biggest deer i had ever saw.

My first thoughts where is it the monster i have been watching i do not think so since a guy who was watching him from the road said hehad 11 points. I did not get a good enough look to count the points but the spread seemed alot wider then the one i found.

So i go home smiling and call the local bait shop. He said i could not take it to a taxidermist without a permit. be it from a kill which season is not in or a road kill permit. I called the local fish and wildlife dnr office.

The bioligst said a few years ago they made it illegal to take a skull or rack because they found hemaragic fever sorry for spelling. He said it killed alot of deer off. He said since it had been dead so long it was not possiable to test it. He said i could call the local C.O or the head office and ask them. Afte talking with him he told me to come out and he would give me a road kill permit since it would not do them any good to have the thing.

I went out got a permit and called a local taxidermist. He was not home. But i am thinking of getting it mounted.

Should i do a euro mount or a rack mount where you do not see any of the skull.

After looking at the euro mounts at the bait shop not sure they look that good.

What do you think cost would be on a rack mount or a euro mount.

What would you do.

I got some pics and will try and post them soon

Shoot the monster, THEN mount him!

I would probably just put that old rack in the garage with the rest of my dead deer, but you could do a euro if you wanted...

I got a euro mount on an eight pointer I bagged last year. It looks pretty cool and cost something like $120, including a wooden plaque.

I don't know that I would spend any money on a deer I found dead. That is just me. I would boil it and clean it up a bit and then hang in the garage on in my workshop. Looking forward to seeing the pics.

You may want to save the money you’d spend on the dead head find, and budget it into your gear allotment for next season.
Just a suggestion.

I can't think of any reason why to mount a deer that you just found dead???

Would this be a trophy to you???

Tim, do what makes you happy. If you think mounting that thing would look cool, then do it. And have fun this hunting season.
