average distance deer go

I have noticed that the last several deer i have taken have gone what i think is a long distance between where they are shot and where they are found. So the question is on average how far do the deer you shoot go before dropping

I asked this because the last 2 went about 100 or so plus. They where both double lungs with the last one being a slice across the heart as a bonus

Usually my deer run about 40-80 yards, but last year I landed a double lung shot on a doe and she ran about 400 yards. I've never had that happen before but I was hunting a wide open cut field and there was nothing in the deer's way.

Keep in mind- deer can cover ALOT of ground, REAL quick.

For one to run 50 yards it likea few leaps....

I dont usually stop deer- I wait for them to stop themselves. So, I tend to shoot at deer that are not "alert"....which I atribute to my short recoveries.
I don't normally like to agree with you, but I agree with you 100% on this!!!! I've only had one deer travel over 100yds that was shot WELL, everything else was dead in under 75yds.

I am going to gave to say around 60-80 with a good hit and a quiet bow....I have had them fall closer and farther but 60 -80 is prolly average...

60 to 80, some more, some less.

In my experience, a deer shot through the chest with a broadhead lives about 5-10 seconds. However far they run in that 5-10 sec.'s is how far you track them. If you don't hit a rib and they don't know they've been shot. They'll spend that time standing around trying to figure out what happened.

Although I have shot 3 deer with my bow, none of them have gone 100 yeards. I figureabout 80-100. Two were complete pass thru and last year's buck stayed inside.

the average is 40-80. but if they are hurt to bad or stunned they will tend to bolt and run further. when i do not hit a bone or anything they only make it about 40 yards and look around as if asking what bit me. then they fall over and thats it.

It really is amazing how quickly they expire with a good hit. last season 4 out of 5 were dead within 35 yards. The best one did one good bolt and fell over dead as a stump within 15 yds.Number 5 was not a good hit and the deer was never recovered.

I have averaged 40-50 yards over the years. The last two yearshave been alot shorter. 5 deer and an average of about 25-30 yards.

If you are absolutely still and do not move after the shot, your tracking jobs will be alot shorter.

Last yearItook a doeopening day of bow anda buckopening day of gun.My blind and my stand are in the same 50 yrd. area. I followed the same blood trailon the twoand both of'emlayed at the base of a downed tree about 60 yrds. to the east.Had a buddy with me that helped track both of'em. We couldn't beleive it. There was still blood from my bow kill when we got to the buck. That was crazy.

Hunting really, really thick woods also factors in. When I hunt in pines, they find 'safer' places to slow down in quicker...it's nice except that the blood trail is harder to follow on pine needles than normal leaves in my opinion.

RE: average distance deer go

If you are hunting in hardwoods even a gut shot deer will not go farther that 100yds if it isn't pushed. More times than not it's getting right on a deers trail that will makeit go any farther than that.
