Ground blinds?
 

This is my first year bow hunting. Is there anyone out there hunting ground blinds? I here a lot about tree stands, I’m sure it’s because they produce the most success, but I’m not crazy about the idea of perching myself in a tree all day. I purchased some see threw camouflage material 4’X12’. I’m interested in hearing opinions on ground blinds and camouflage netting, what works best, were and how to make the best use of them. Thanks!

I like hunting ground blinds. You can get away with a little more movement. Just set it up and brush it in with some downed tree limbs. If you can set it up and leave it up is the best, but its also very mobile if you see action somewhere else.

I've hunted out of a ground blind over the last couple of years. I own the doghouse ground blind and have been happy with it. It has the shoot thru mesh and it works perfectly. It's really no different than a tree stand in the aspect of where you would set it up. Obviously, you would want to be between bedding and feeding areas, but you want to make sure that you have it set up where your visibility is better and not confined too much. Make sure you set it up a few days in advance of your hunt and make sure you use some of the native foliage to "brush in" the blind. The deer shouldn't pay any attention to the blind. I've had many deer come within a couple of steps of my blind while I'm sittin inside. It's very exciting to be at eye level with deer that are just steps away.
Just follow the hunting basics that you already know, but make sure if you're in thick cover to cut small shooting lanes in front of your windows so you'll be able to shoot that deer when it steps out in front of your blind. Good luck.

I guess it all depends on the deer where you hunt, I have had good luck with store bought ground blinds but I have also had good luck with man made ground blinds. I use both depending on what the area I hunt offers, I will say that ground hunting is a good technique to use and it works. You might have to try a couple different set ups to see what works best, I have had the best luck with the man made brush blinds on our place, I guess the deer dont notice it as much as a brushed in store bought blind. Like I said I have both set up right now as we talk about the subject and both have worked but you will need to survey the area you want to put one and figure which will work out the best and some of it will take a little trial and error.....Good luck!!!!

do you guys spray them down with scent killer... i jus got the doghouse this year cause theres one spot tha the only way to hunt is off the ground.. i really need to practice shootin sittin down.. what kinda chair you guys use to stay comfortable??

DaveI will always spray mine down and let it sit outsidefor a few days around camp before I set them up.I tried a couple different chairs and couldn't find one that was acceptable for an all day sit or that was adjustable for different elevations, so I wound up building one and putting a comfortable boat seat on it.....

I have learned to love ground blinds when the situation warrants and I will tell you nothing is cheaper to make. I have ones that cost nothing to make except some string for basic lashing. I also have them made out of burlap bags and rolls of landscapers burlap. Those rot pretty quickly.

I know it sounds goofy but I also have a couple made out of old carpet and a handfull of zip ties. They last for years and the deerignore them after a month in the woods.

I use a five or six gallon buckets which I leave on standand carry-in one of those clip to the back of your belt cushions. You will also find that on a cold day they are FAR warmer then being perched 20ft up a tree!!

I just bought the Ameristep Outback blind and i love it so far... havent hunted outta it but its a good blind... has windows all the way around. im puttin it on the corner of a grown field and im putting a bunch of branches and that on it.. good luck
