Be Creative!

Over the time I have been on this forum I have seen a few threads about people who put up cameras or stands on private property without permission. Taking these items can lead to legal ramifications and confrontations with people you may or may not know. Anyway, being idle right now, I came up with some lesser ways to deal with these situations. Please think of more and add them in.

1. Trailcam - take the joker out of a deck of cards and hang it on a string. Hang the card in front of the motion sensor on the camera and every time there is even a small breeze, pictures of nothing.

2. Trailcam or Stand - If you don't intend to hunt the immediate area, get some blood meal from the local lawn and garden center and sprinkle it out on the ground in a wide circle around the stand. Blood meal is used to keep deer and other herbivores out of gardens. After it has been out for a day or so, the smell is pretty much beyond the human nose, but not deer. It will attract coyotes and other carnivores to the area though.

3. Trailcam - take a small piece of scotch tape and put it over the lens. They won't get any photos that they can tell what is there. There is no permanent damage to the camera.

Sorry but if it's MY property my creativity would still begin and end with the stand or camera at the base of the tree and a notesaying "Takeyour stuffand get out, if I find it again it's mine, and if I findYOU I will press charges, yours truly, the landowner".

That's about as kind hearted or creative as I would get.;)

Let's say you have "exclusive rights" to the property, but you are not the landowner & the landowner has not given you power of attorney....

Then I tellthe landownerabout the stuff, that he has a trespasser and ask him what he wants to do with the stuff.

Why piss around with someone messing up your hunting area just to be creative?
Do what you need to do to get his ass out of the area.

I would hope the landowner would do the same thing as Matt, or I would.

But not bad ideas, especially the joker.

For the treestand! I would eat a large bottleof salsa with corn chipsand lots of garlicwith a can of B/M beans.
:DThen I would leave the aftermath on the seat of the treestand. That would be a nice present for the slob when he climbs into his stand to hunt;)

If I find someone elses stand in a tree on my property, I cut the tree down with my chainsaw!!

That should give them the idea.

Before I got my own place, I had people who were placing trailcams and stands on the land I had permission to hunt. When I spoke to the landowner about it, he told me not to do anything because he was afraid whoever was trespassing would damage his equipment (he did not live on the land). It frustrated the crap out of me and I just did things like pee in front of his stand and trailcams. There is a good chance you WILL run into situations like this if you don't own your own and thought it might be nice to get some creativity going where you don't do anything that will be too confrontational.

So if your "creative" with someone elses stuff, even if he does not belong there, what do you suppose he'd do to your stuff when he finds it. Obviously he'd know someone else is messing with him so I'd guess he'd try to find your stuff. Could end up in quite an ordeal. I guess if that happened to me, I'd have to see what kind of mood I was in.

Reading this thread has me apreciating my hunting grounds. I've never even seen another hunter, or his gear (I hunt on state land 5 min from my home).

However, If I did have a problem with another hunter leaving his gear, there is a simple solution. Fill up soda bottles with piss (take a week to do it), cap them and bring them into the woods. dig a small hole and leave the tip of the un-capped pissbottle above ground. deer will vacate the premises for months.

destroying the other equipment....seriously?[&:]

You guys are either
A. wasteful
B. Childish

Take it with a note that tells them where they can come get it and why you took it. tell them never to trespass again, next time you will press charges. 90% of the time the tresspasser wont even call and claim his illegally placed goods....so yours to keep until he does. But it still leaves room for people to make up for honest mistakes. Maybe the guy is new to the neighbors property and got confused on the lines. Placed equipment on the wrong side of a fence as an honest mistake and comes back to find it smashed to pieces or cut up? How would you feel. Even if the guy is purposely poaching, why cut up perfectly good equipment? Take it telling him all he has to do is show up to get it back..and keep it until he does. put it to use, dont stomp 400 dollars into smitherines to prove a point. And if you still feel the need, PM me and Ill pay shipping for that equipment before you do.:D

Sure press charges if you catch them after a warning. Sure take the equipment...but leave a note and dont smash it to pieces. Evolve past the caveman banging rocks stage, lol.

But on a liter note...the joker card is genius ever since ledgers last performance in batman..that could creep someone out big time to find a joker card dangling from the tree at their equipment...theyd be haulin ass outta there lookin over their shoulder.[8D]

I like TEmbry's idea, but honestly, I'd probably just take it.

I do not own hunting ground. My family does. I also hunt a lot of government land. If or when I do purchase some hunting-farm land, I will have no problem destroying anything someone else puts there, as long as I keep the land posted. They should expect this.

I have our farm inPA posted clear enough that nobody can ever say they crossed the property line by accident.
We started posting the property about 15 years ago after a guy got shot in turkey season. Neither hunter had permission to be on the property and a few weeks later the guy who got shot started talking about a lawsuit. Luckily it never happened, but my grandfather was pretty shook up so we decided to post everything.

Anyway, if I find anything on my side of the property---it's mine.

It's my property--I own it.

Do I feel bad--Hell No. I feel good because I just got something for free.

I like stuff for free.:D:D

A few years ago I had exclusive rights to a nice piece of property, unfortunately it was near a trailer park where the residents thought they had rights too. I found tree stands, cameras, etc. Finally after getting tired of having my hunts ruined, I posted the entire piece. They couldn't say it wasn't posted properly, took 2 days. The next trail cam I found, I kept moving posted sign in front of it. Do you have any idea how long it takes to take 28 or so pics of a posted sign??? How about x8? Then I took the stand down and posted the tree it was on. My buddy took great pride in having pics taken of his moon. This went on for a few weeks until I finally found one of the guys riding his 4 wheeler, and expressed my displeasure nicely, and even asked him to please inform any other hunters that this property was posted and charges would be pressed. His response "you can't stop me!" I then informed him that so far I had been playing but if that was his attitude I could get serious. his response "What are you gonna do?" I told him that I would be taking 2"x4" and driving nails into them and burying them under the leaves. 4 wheeler tires get expensive. From there I ran cables across every 4 wheeler trail. The owner wanted to press charges but I told him that I would handle it. It stopped but the property lost some of it's glitz.

I remember my grandfather shooting at people trespassing on our land. Those were the days. Probly would not fly nowadays.

If it's on my property, it's mine till you come face to face with me to claim it back.

I have caught neighbors before trespassing, I just make myself noticeable. We don't like trouble so we just post our land better and keep the fence up to par. I haven't had to ask permission to track deer on theneighborsland but when the day comes, I know I wouldn't have a problem. I want them to feel the same way with us. Seriously IMO it seems to me that the only people that cry about trespassers and cause problems are the ones that don't own their own land but think they have to be the landowners watch dog.If you things got stolen Im sure you didn't hide it better or maybe you should put it right off the road. Seriously who are you to rip down a stand or smash somebodys camera? Im just guessing that some of you do that. I read all the time about people saying someone stole their camera and feederor took their stand. If you are a victim of stolen property I blame dumb threads like this."put a card in front of the camera" are you asking to get your face punched in. Leave people chit alone. Its dumb**** like you that cause problems.

Most landowners want you to keep trespassers off. But that might just be where I hunt, who knows;)

You shouldn't really have to hide it on private property should you?
