first goat (doe)

Here's the story. After setting up my deer cam, my brother and I went out looking for some goats. Neither one of us has ever shot an antelope before. We have been hunting this herd since last year but never could get a good shot. This is spot and stalk country as we have too much rain and goats don't go to water holes much. We spotted this group of about twenty or so. One buck in with them but not very big. They were feeding about 80 yards away from a corn field, so we drove by and parked out of sight. It was a long stalk through the corn. Very tough not to make any noise with all the dead weeds and last years corn stalks in the field but we made it to the edge without spooking them. I crawled up to the weeds that are on the edge of the field. The buck was a couple hundred yards away but several doe were within my range. They must have heard or suspected something as they were slowly walking away. I ranged the closest doe at 66 yards away. Pulled back my 101st, got onto my knees, put the 70 yard pin on her, and let her rip. Shot was a little low but caught the bottom of the lungs. Died after going 150 yards. My first shot this year at an antelope. Missed last year. After spending 4 days in the Bad Lands of South Dakota last week and putting on more miles thenmyknees couldtake, this sure made my day.

70 yards, very impressive. I know that sure would have upped my odds stalking if I had that kind of range.

btw, I know exactly what you mean on how loud the vegetation is...frustrating isnt it?

Congrats! 66 yards is a heck of a shot. Where I live even a 30+ yard shot isn't very common. LOL
