RE: I hit one and can't find it!!........
I agree...
I guess I view these forums as entertainment...I dang sure don't believe any guy on the other end of the line can help me track a deer that I shot...That frankly is asking a bit much... I take 10-12 hunters out a year as guests, get to do a fair amount of tracking...Let's just say that if you shoot a deer on my property and can't give details on where the animal was standing, where he ran, etc...Then by the time we get through looking for your deer 3 hours later then you will have these facts ingrained in your brain the next time...Because I will keep you out in the woods looking for your animal at least 3 hours before I give up on that animal...And, before you hunt the next day,you will shoot your equipment and show me thatyou can hit what you are aiming at... Another point... Unless you absolutely KNOW that you are going to kill the animal...Then don't release the arrow, period... |

Can we get a HUGE round of applause for this thread! I for one think Rob nailed it when he wrote that it was "years late in coming". Fantastic advice and it should be followed.

RE: I hit one and can't find it!!........
ORIGINAL: AF Hunter Well then, I'll send you a PM because I lost one last year and still can't find it. If you can really help out, it would be greatly appreciated.:D Personally, since I am color blind, if a deer drops out of sight, I just start working in circles from the last place I saw him/her. You people with normal color vision suck. |
RE: I hit one and can't find it!!........
If you have never read Mr. Trout's book on "Finding Wounded Deer", you owe it to the deer, yourself, and everyone else involved, to read this book.
Great post Matt. I'll give you 3.25 stars. j/k LT |

RE: I hit one and can't find it!!........
Matt, I agree with most all of your post and I am with you 100% on the folks that hit a deer, look for two hours and call it quits or have to get to work or school. Frankly it disgusts me. Everyone owes it to the animal they release on to put every ounce of themselves into succesfully finding that animal.
However, although some view this forumstrictly as entertainment, there's quite a bit of good info on here. If someone hits a deer and have put everything they have into it but still cannot find it, I think they as well as everyone else reading their post could benefit from the insight that will get thrown around. IF a deer is hit and the hunter PMs you or Rob or whomever else, they are getting one or two opionins and very well could be missing out on a key bit of insight someone else could offer and evryone else reading that post could also pick up those little tid bits that make the difference. I agree with your post, but do think there are times many of us could benefit by some of those posts where everyone has a chance to chime in (assuming they have given there 100% before posting). |
