75 grain broadheads
 

Its been a while since ive worked on compounds, but recently I put together a bow for a man who insists on having his arrows tuned to a 75 grain broadhead. My question is why? I guess Ive been playing in the trad world to long where we want a to increase foc. Does anyone else use a 75grain, and if so, what advantages do you gain, other than speed?

I forgot to add, he wanted this bow set at 60lbs, so it is not a question of having a light spined arrow.

I shoot a 57gr. rocket and they will perform just as good as anything on the market! You gain speed thats all!

57grain. I didnt know they made them that light. What spine of arrow do you shoot with that?

I shoot the 500 spine easton lightspeeds and no they do not make 57gr. I buy 75gr. and then take the big chissel point off and replace it with the small chissel point making it 57gr.:D

I have killed more deer shooting a 60# fast bow set up with 350-360gr arrows and a 75gr Rocket Miniblaster than any set up to date..........of course a 30" draw length helps with the performance.

That combo sliced and diced more animals than I can even mention. [:-]

I've killed several deer with 75 grain Miniblasters and Wolverine; my wife used the Muzzy 75 twice with great results.
IME: FOC can be 10% if feather fletches, and no wrapare used with a 75 gr. tip.

After my shoulder surgery in 2002, I hunted with 53-55lbs, 28" CX 200 arrows, and 75 grain Muzzys. I took maybe 15-20 or sodeer with that combo from 10 to 55 yards, and only 2 arrows didn't pass through.

Interesting. Its been a while since ive delt with compounds. Ive been backed up on trad bow orders. I cant seem to get them made quick enough, which is not a bad thing. This just surprised me when this guy insisted on 75 grains. I first tuned itto 100 grains. He didnt want it, and insisted on going with 75 grains. Ive never set up a bow beyond 45lbs with anything less than 100 grains. Something I noticed about this bow was how much louder it was with a lighter head. It really popped.

In my spare time,I just finishedbuilding me a new longbow for this hunting season and I could not imagine using anything less than 125grains. Ive actually got it tuned to 145 grain with weighted inserts.
