just dont uderstand
i was watching jim shocky thismorning and they were bear hunting. i dont understand why they wated tell they got whithin 80 yards to shot, when they will shot deer 200 yards or more. it just didn't make sence to me. im starting to find most of these shows crazy.

Muzzleloader maybe? I don't watch the show...........
(and do me a favor and lose the signature line, we do have women and children who post in the open forums ;)) |
RE: just dont uderstand
I enjoy watching Jim's shows. And I think they try to get closer for a couple of reasons. The closer you are the better chance you have of making a Good shot. And not to mention it is just freakin exciting to get close to bruins! There eye sight doesn't compare to deers either. I have been pretty close to bear and they never even saw me. I can't wait to shoot a big Griz with my bow someday!

RE: just dont uderstand
There is nothing crazy about trying to get close to your intended target. I don’t think I’ve seen shaocky shoot very far regardless of what he’s hunting. I like his show.

It's also a hunting show. the longer they wait.....the more footage they get.;)

IMO, Shockey's show is top notch. There is no reason to take a long shot when you have an oppurtunity to take a shorter range shot. There is less room for error and a better chance for a quick and humane kill. I think he normally does the right thing opposed to some of the other shows that are out there.

RE: just dont uderstand
Have you ever hunted bear? If youdo, you'll know why.
Hard to "pick a spot" when they look like a black blob (when far way), not to mention their thick fur you have to penetrate. |

Shockey is adamant about shooting only boars too, so they get close to make absolutely sure that he is shooting a male. And, with Shockey, lots of muzzleloader hunting, so closer of course is better. I too am a big fan of Shockey and his shows.

Jim Shockey is the real deal in my opinion. If they were waiting on a closer shot,I would trust his reasoning.

RE: just dont uderstand
Was he shooting or was he guiding someone else? If it was him he was prob hunting with a muzzleloader and 200 yards is pushing it with a front stuffer. If he was guiding someone shooting a rifle, well maybe the shooter wasn't comfortable shooting 200 yards, or maybe shockey wasn't comfortable with him shooting 200 yards. Even though I am pretty confident in my ability to shoot 200 yards, closer is always better

I have a lot of respect for Jim Shockey ..compared to a lot of other people's shows that are out there
