RE: is it a good idea?
Keeping the doe count in check is just as ciritical for deer management as keeping the buck count in check. Its never a good idea to target one sex over the other unless you are trying to reduce / eliminate the herd. I would say it makes more sense to go for both.

gotta take the does

RE: is it a good idea?
If you have too many does in area, the bucks don't have to search as much to find them. You won't have many bucks straying from random properties either since there are enough does for them to stick around on their home terf to breed. Less does = better herd balance = more competition between bucks = better hunting for all. It sounds to me like some does NEED to bed thinned and your dynamics will improve.

its better to even out the herd.

RE: is it a good idea?
ORIGINAL: gutshot It's never a good idea to shoot only bucks. Pretty soon your buck to doe ratio will be out of whack and it will hurt your herd. rick |
RE: is it a good idea?
Sounds like the buck doe ratio is is not good. It would be a good idea to start shooting does off that land.

RE: is it a good idea?
I'm curious to know what kind (body sizes, antler sizes) of bucks you've been seeing on the land. That can tell you a lot about the overall health of the herd as well
