Score this mainframe Eight.........

This mainframe 8 has been cruising with the big ten point who is roaming between the two food plots of my buddy & I. My buddy feels the 8 is a shooter, I think we have to give him another year.

Am I jaded because my sights are set on the ten? That's the 10 pointer feeding on the left. Tell me, what do you think this 8 will score? The picture was taken within the last week.

And no- that's NOT a third beam coming off the back of his left side. It's just a branch from a felled tree limb laying behind him.

RE: Score this mainframe Eight.........

I would say he is around 125". He has good mass, not very tall or wide though. What you should look at more, isweather or not he is mature. When decidingif he is a shooter. If that deer is 4 or 5 years old giving himanother year isnt gonna gain you much antler, just a much smarter animal.

I retract my last, 8pt not 9 and right G-2 is shorter than I thought. Not a great picture to try and score but I would say he is more along the 115 mark.

Well if that's not a tine on his right side, making him an 8 then 118". If not his g3's are really offsetting.

I got him right at 115 GROSS, he's got great mass, just not much on beam and tine length, and he's not very wide. If he's a good buck for your area, let him have it, in my area, he'd get a free pass from a lot of guys. But he's certainly a nice deer with some potential. Next year, if there is one, he may very well be a P&Y quality buck.

I don't know, but I'm field dressing him and hoping he weighs at least 140 pounds, hopefully 150.:)

Guys,
Upon further inspection, I have to agree with those who said this buck is a 5x4, that IS his left G2, not a branch from the felled tree limb!

Here is a close up with some filters added for better discrimination:

My guess is 120'ish... I would say maybe 3.5 yrs old, if you can stand to let him go for another year and the neighbors wont gun him down then I think next year he will be closer to a "mature" deer and probably noticably bigger..

OHbowhntr 08-24-2008 07:09 PM

RE: Score this mainframe Eight.........

IF that's a 5th point on the left, then I'd say he's gonna run 122, I don't think that tine is any longer than 7," and it's really hard to differentiate, but I think you may be right. My guess 122 GROSS, and next year, HE IS a POPER!!!
