RE: How bad are coyotes on deer?

I live in the North country in my state of New York where we can get over 2 to4 ft of snow in one dumping. A couple of years ago, we had 4ft. one day. It only takes a little snow and the coyotes can put a hurting on your herd. I killed 7 coyotes on my land last winter. It took me all winter to do that. This year I am not seeing very many deer here at all. We had a normal winter last year. Everyone around here cannot stand the coyotes. They put more of a hurting on them than most people can even imagine. My brother is a logger. He sees where the coyotes will come in where the deer are herding in his tops feeding, and they won't just kill one. They will kill as many as they can. This bull---- they only kill what is hurt or injured is way off. They are opportunists. The only good one, is a dead one in my opinion.

Here in Central NY I've had a couple of buddies that have witnessed coyotes chasing deer. One was at our company building. The coyote chased the deer, and to escape the deer jumped into the pond right near our building. They're not chasing them to give them a kiss!!!

i am from southern ny, we started havinga problem with coyotes about 5 years ago....eversince then i have seen less deer than the norm.
i know a guy who hunts all over livingston and stuben county for coyotes, and last year him and his buddies took over 50 or so. i have only shot a few while deer hunting. in no way am i saying we should totallyget rid of these predators, but we need to reduce their numbers.

some areas they are hard on them...others they hardly touch them...wounded deer and fawns are pretty easy targets...winter time they sometimes get preyed on....but its usually not terrible...coyotes aint dumb...its easier to catch something else than chase down a deer for miles...
