dont forget in early prerut usually its still hot so a water hole is a good spot too;)

Even during the rut if you are set up on the primary food source the does are using or between the does food source and bedding you have a great chance of having a buck in the area. While the bucks may not be eating the does still are and they are what the bucks are after.

You left out water, Jim......but I get your point.;)
Deer can go weeks without food if they have to. They can only go days without water. Knowing water holes can be as productive, if not more, than hunting food sources. Biggest deer I ever killed was over a mud hole. There's a reason those big boys hang in the swamps. Plenty of water.
