breathing and how it affects your shooting

do you guys do anything to breath differnt when you shoot.
I saw a show where a guy told a sniper to breath out deep breaths then slow down when he is ready to shoot.
Would this help with bow shooting

Absolutely,I learned this from my cousin Lt. Col. Dave Grossman who trains police all over the country and has several best selling books.
You can calm your body and lower your heart rate,I like to take a breath before shooting and hold it until after release,it keeps your body quiet.

I doubt your cousin would advise you to take a breath and hold it while shooting.

I inhale long and slow for about 4 sec, hold for about 4 sec, exhale slowly for about 4 sec...repeat. I never hold my breath. It helps me to remain steady.

So you hold your breath for 4 seconds without holding your breath?

I like to exhale a half breathe before really setting in and preaparing to release. When I'm drawing and achoring I will take deep breathes.

My bad...wanted to say I don't hold my breath (the same gasping breath taken to go under water) to take a shot. This method just slows down my breathing and helps me relax to take the shot.
