How far do you walk to your stand?

As I progress as a bowhunter I find myself moving further and further away from the weekend warriors in the woods. I used to hunt 100yds from the truck my 1st yr, 4yrs ago but this year I'm going 1.3 miles to my furthest rut stand.

Not that the further you go the better you are than anyone else but how far do you go and why? I do realize that due to the terrain or varying degrees of pressure that your woods may get you probably don't have to go as far to get to where you need to be.

Just curious how far you walk.

Its about 1.5 miles from the house to our cabin then its about 4-500 miles from the cabin to the stands.

How far do I walk? Or....How far do I CHOOSE to walk?

I could get to my most productive stand by parking and walking in 400yds. I choose to come in sometimes by a route that has me walking .75 mi.

Conversely....I could walk 2mi. to a few stands this year.....but I can get to them BETTER by walking in from maybe .3 -.5mi.

WOW, I apologize I didn't have a selection for "beyond superhuman and willing to walk a 496 mile range between stands." ;)

I want to hunt with Germ. I vary from stand to stand. On government land, probably 1 mile in, on private land, 3-4 hundred yards. I hate getting hot first thing in the morning though, too smelly.

If I walked 1.3 miles to a stand I'd cross about 5 properties. Maybe more. Anywhere from 80-400 yds on my local spots. 200-800 for my public land places.

I sit anywhere from 50yrds-.5 miles.Don't like to drag deer out of the .5 mile spot by myself and the dang cell gets no connection either at the .5. I have one spot ( abanded shed) that the distance the deer run after being shot is the distance my drag will be, longest 50yrds, shortest 2 yrds, this stand is in a suburban area. I walk 20 yrds from my vehicle to the shed.

RE: How far do you walk to your stand?

I have something like 25 stands on the 775 acres I hunt and it can range from a couple hundred yard walk from where I park up to a 3/4 of a mile or better. Ive killed big deer within a couple hundred yards of my truck and Ive also done it a mile from my truck. I think it all depends on your situation. If there deer are traveling a long way and wont be near your stand for a couple of hours you probably can get away with parking a little closer. If your slipping into there bedroom and trying to go undetected you probably should consider walking for at least a few hundered yards, thats just my two cents.

I will not get any closer than 500 yds to any of my spots with a vehicle, so I walk at least 500yds to all my spots...

My best stand is less than 200 yards from my house.

Most of my spots seem to be about 400 - 600 yards from the truck...

RE: How far do you walk to your stand?

It depends on where I'm hunting. I've walked 75 yards and killed deer and I've walked uphill for45 minutesbefore daylight to escape the crowds on state land. There is no set distance. Some people beat themselves up unnecessarily and others just throw good sense to the wind over this. Different areas and different deer with different exposures to man and civilization require different things. If I could walk only 100 yards I'd be happy, but if I have to walk a half mile I'll do it. The trick is to know the difference and make it easy on yourself without buggering all the deer in the area up.

I go 200-600 on private land and at least 3/4 mile to 2 miles on the public land around Virginia Tech.

My walks are varied as well. My shortest walk is about 150 yards. My longest walk is about 1.5 miles. My other 5 or 6 stands range from 300-500 yards.

In the thumb I walk 750 yards during bow...during gun I drive my Sportsman right to the edge of the woods

Near home...I walk 50 yards in one spot and 100 yards to the other.

RE: How far do you walk to your stand?

During bow season I'm anywhere from 300 yards to .5 mile depending on the stand. I'm typically hunting out of a a climber, so it really varies to where the deer are (hopefully). During gun season, I have about .5 mile walk to my normal gun stand....but the drive in is a good 10 miles off the black top to stay away from the clowns.

My closest stand is around 100 yards, and my farthest stand is about 600 yards.

I suspect a lot of folks on here have a hard time with distances. LOL If you're hunting 50-100 acres it's pretty hard to walk 1000 yards. LOL

RE: How far do you walk to your stand?

It all depends. I put 200 yards because my couple of honey holes are that close. The funny thing is, all the weekend warriors walk right past me to the field edge (because that's what they see all the pro's do on the hunting shows.) They've yet to figure out to get to them, they have to pass by me. ;)

Most of my stands are about a 1/2 mile walk. Some a little shorter and some a little longer.

I only have to walk about a half a mile to the stand I usually go to.

RE: How far do you walk to your stand?

my closest stand is 148 yards from my door. I dont even have to drive to my land. just walk out the back door and poof i'm there.
Now the farthest i have walked was a 2 mile hike to get on the back side of a piece cause no one else would let me come in the back way.
