How many days will you take off?

How many days this year will you take off of work? How many hours do you think you will log in the stand?

RE: How many days will you take off?

Usually I take 10 days off. Eight of them will be spent in Wisconsin this October though.

RE: How many days will you take off?

Won't be taking any off (not working). As far as being in the woods, I don't want to even guess on that one. Depending on the deer, it might be a few hours or long enough to qualify my wife to have me declared dead and collect the insurance money. I am hoping for a happy medium somewhere less than the latter.

Probably take of 6 days and I don't have any idea on how many hours. It will all depend on what's going on at work.

Then if i have not got a buck by gun season i could shoot one with a ml or shotgun. then i can get one deer with my ml tag come ml season. so i think i will be at it alot

I put the golf clubs away and shut down my golf course right around bow season (mid October). I'm in the woods EVERY single day of hunting season.

I currently have 15 days planned in October, November, and early December. Depending on how the hunt goes, I might cutback to 10 or up to 20 days. We will see. That's the nice thing about beingmy ownboss. The downside is I don't make $$$ when I'm not working.

RE: How many days will you take off?

5.5 days for elk
5.5 days for whitetails during the rut. The way my schedule runs 5.5 days actually gives me 6 off.
Plus a scattered evening afterwork, weekends, and friday afternoons.

Probably won't take any days off, but I'll be in the woods every day, 6 days a week. Evenings on the weekdays, and morning/evenings on Saturdays.

This is the beauty of owning a business! Last year I was in the woods, just about every morning and afternoon. I have a 4 yr old I get to daycare before 6:30 so its in the woods straight from there.

This year, I have additional land and intend to be hunting it all. If it wasnt for Sundays I would be in there before church!

RE: How many days will you take off?

I don't recall taking ANY days off, last year....and I hunted 48 times. If I average 4 hour sits (likely)....that's almost 200 hours on stand.

I'm fortunate in that I can come in late on some days.....and take off early on others. I can also hunt every day in the early season, in the evenings.

I plan on 1 or two days vacation to hunt.....but I'll pick them strategically.....and they'll be dependent on what's already been taken. I hope to take ZERO days vacation to hunt.;)

RE: How many days will you take off?

I haven't decided yet. It will depend entirely on the weather... If we can get some decent cold weather during the rut, I'll probably take a week or so..

I can pretty much come and go within reason, so I'll get my days one way or another.

RE: How many days will you take off?

During the season I get a bunch of time off anyway. I will probably use about 5-10 vacation/sick days as well.

I've alreadyburnedwhat littlevacation time I hadfor '08, so I'll be sticking to my normal routine of making my weekends count and striking when an opportunity presents itself.Lots of balls in the air right now, work-wise, so I still can't state with any certainty whether or not I'll be able to hunt evenings. There's also a chance that I may be able to fenangle a week break between jobs.

I'm 100% confident that I'll tag out on something. Just not sure what or where.

Even with zero vacation time, I'm confident that I can push my stand time over the 150-hour mark, just playing the hand that I'm dealt.

I have the first 2 weeks of Nov off, that's 10 vacation days and I'll fill in some other days with vacation I still have left. Not sure how many yet or how many hours but if it's daylight and I'm not at work, I'm in or headed to be in a tree the entire 6 weeks of our season and some of others.;)

RE: How many days will you take off?

I'll take about 5-6 days off this year. 3 for gun season, 1 for a lottery archery hunt (ripley), and a couple misc. days here and there. I usually am around 150 hours in the stand every year. that's just deer, there's also bear:D

GregH 08-18-2008 10:45 AM

I take the month of Nov. off.

I have 10 days scheduled off for Archery. Plus i work a flex schedule that gives me off every other friday. I have additional days off forrifle season and late muzzleloader.

RE: How many days will you take off?

I usually take 3-5 days off in early/mid November for the rut. Hopefully it will actually be cold this year! I will hunt almost every day of the week...every afternoon after work, mornings and evenings on Saturday and Sunday.

RE: How many days will you take off?

Typically off Thurs. and Fri. so I take off every Sat during archery season, taking the 6th through the 13th off to go to Illinois. Take 2 days off for PA bear season, and 3 days for the PA rifle season.

RE: How many days will you take off?

Well since I will be starting a new job not a lot of work will taken off on my part. Also I will not be able to hunt in Wyoming this year at all so I will have to travel back to Nebraska to hunt. I plan on taking on or two days just before the rifle season and during the seaking phase of the rut. This is the best time to be in to woods here and I hope to accomplish what I am after on those days. We shall see though.

GRIZZLYMAN 08-18-2008 11:23 AM

RE: How many days will you take off?

I save ten days of vacation a year for hunting. I try to take those adjacent to weekends since my leases are five hours away and I don't want to make a lot of trips. It also depends on if and what draw hunts I get drawn for. I already got drawn for one (three day hunt).

Mottz 08-18-2008 11:25 AM

RE: How many days will you take off?

Probably 2 days at the end of bow season if I haven't got anything before that. I'm close enough to do evening hunts after work but the days I take off would be full days in the stand.

I have it pretty good. My boss is real cool and lets me come in at 10:00 in the morning and leave between 2-3 in the afternoon. I love it!!!!!

Get out of PA and you don't have that mandatory day of rest!:) Here we consider deer hunting as "resting" so Sunday is also available.

I work shift work . So i get off 14 days a month . But i intend to take off a week in Nov or so

RE: How many days will you take off?

Just one or two days off work to go myself. Then The boss will want me to go "guide" him on a hunt (where I get to hunt as well;)), so that will be about a week during the rut. It's nice having my old man for my boss:D
