Anybody "done"? Anyone going back in?

With < 4 weeks to go 'til opening day.....I'm "done". I'm not going back into my hunting areas until 9/13 for any reason.

Are you "done"....or do you have unfinished business, "there"?

What's your frame of mind for the timing of staying out? Or....do you not buy into that train of thought.....and go in whenever you like (to check cams, cut lanes, scout, etc..., etc..., etc...?

RE: Anybody "done"? Anyone going back in?

I haven't been to any of them since March.

RE: Anybody "done"? Anyone going back in?

I still have some unfinished business in the woods...I'll probably stop going in 2 weeks before the opener...I only hit the woods during the middle of the day when most of the deer won't be moving.

RE: Anybody "done"? Anyone going back in?

Bruce I had to clear a walk-in path and pick some trees, yesterday. I knew I'd be going in in the dark to these spots....and I didn't know them. I haven't been on the "old" land since turkey season....but I know it well.

I think I did more good than harm, yesterday. I think I can get in there quietly, now.....and I already have the tree I want to get into opening morning........no matter which wind I'm faced with (I have 6-7 choices of morning stands, now).

If it weren't for new land acquired.....I'd have never gone in, period (except to pull my cam).

One more trip, this week, to plant some no-plow food plots and put an extra rachet strap on each of the 3 stands we hung a few weeks back. That's it.

I'm behind. I've still got to hang set's. But my problem has been seeing exactly what property I have permission too (you know my situation and it hasn't changed). I focused so much of my attetion on this one little property that I haven't even been to my other properties. So I'll be hanging set's during the opening month on new properties.

I have got to set up 1 stand and plant a no-plow food plot at 1 location. I have to go to a couple of my other stands to put out and pick up game cameras. Our season starts Sept 20th.

I still got a food plot to plant and one stand to put up. But there's at least two stands that I won't go near for awhile.

RE: Anybody "done"? Anyone going back in?

I'm basically done, saturday was my walk to find a better entrance point, and verify activity.

I'll keep visiting my camera site every 3-4 days, but that is not deep into my woods, and I dont hunt over it... I think the deer are used to it, the sound of the ATV is the "dinner bell" But I'll stay out of my hunting area until opener.

Done, as of yesterday. Trimmedsome access trails, hung a couple new stands, tweaked some shooting lanes. Finally got some rain and planted plots, and now it is raining on them again today. All I will do from here on out is check cams and growth progress on the plots, maybesome mockscrapes.

One more late season stand to set up. I put steps in a while back so I still have to hang the stand and trim a bit. I think I'll be alright for a late season set up.

I still need to move a few cameras, freshen the posted signs, and move one stand. I will likely do that the weekend of September 6th which is 4 weeks before the opener in PA for me.

Why do you think that? Your next sentence made a good reason that wont mess you up, but rather help.

I made a mess of my entrance to my best morning stand. I know this area well, but still managed to find more than one way in. I got some of the glow tacks and made my trail, but when I returned to my truck I found a shorter way...so I had to go back and pull pins and replace them.

Went back Saturday night to give it a "test' run and still found a different route! I was frustrated to say the least. I think you did yourself a favor to make sure you know exactly how to get there in the dark. I went as far as removing downed branches, cutting briars out of the way, and making sure that I would make as little "crackles" as possible while going in pitch dark.

Thats awesome that your season starts so soon. How long does it last down there and is it anything goes as far as sex of deer? If I could start next month I would be foaming at the mouth, but worrying about filling all my tags before December.

How many antlerless tags do they give in NC, bucks, turkey, bear, etc.?

Sounds like you are set. How many stands do you have up that gives you that many choices for wind?

I'm thinking you read it wrong.

Any sex from the opener. 2 buck limit.....unlimited does.

None. I climb, exclusively.

Well opening day here in Pa. is Oct. 4th and funny you ask this! I am getting ready to go out right now and move stands, hang posted signs, move cams, and hang some new stands! Then I am done! As for Maryland It opens on Sept. 15th and I will be hunting and scouting at the same time it will all be new to me this year! So it will be a journey for sure! ;)

I have to go back in (Wed.) to replace a broken ratchet strap on my stand.

I have 2 new stands to set up, but they are in travel corridors and so it shouldn't disturb anything too badly to get them in. I have 2 cleared but I still need to hang the stands. I am getting those in this week b/c it is very near some bedding.

Jeff you're getting me worried that I'm waiting too long. I haven't even started yet. I have to go hang stands in west Texas this coming weekend and then in east Texas the following weekend. season opens on 9/27.

We're on the same time table, Greg. My opener is 9/13.;)

I wouldn't get to worked up tx. By the time 9/27 comes around the deer will have already changed there patterns some from now (today) till that date.

I have at least one more trip to make for my out of state spot. My main spot there is no real reason to venture into my actual stand sights, but I will make some ventures there to observe from harmless locations.

Ive got two stands to setup yet and then ill be out of the direct areas untill 9/13 myself.

I am done unless I can get a nice rain storm, then I am storming in one more time around noon to check out one more spot. Other than that, no more scouting, chiggers, or ticks for me until the season arrives in October!

I'm still exploring.I've moved to a piece of state land. Finding lots of places to go. I got to make at least one, probably 2 more trips in to select a couple more trees. Early bow starts Sept.27th. I'll be hunting on a big oak ridge about 500 yards off some fields and 2 roads. It's dead between the two roads. In the afternoon I'll move to a spot only about 200 yards off the road. I just got back from exploring the state land on the other side of one of the roads. Like a fool I left my damn GPS andTopo mapat home. Boy that ticks me off. I just took a quick cruise making a big figure 8.

Haven't started yet...just got some new permission this weekend, and haven't even laid eyes on the property. Hoping to get out there this week and look around. I use a climber, so I'm not worried too much about actually setting stands, just picking some trees. of course, sight unseen, it may be a freecken hay field!

I still have four or five stands to hang. And i just moved my trail cameras to another property, so i want to see whats lurking over there.

As much as I don't like it, I still have some business to do. I'm usually out of there around the week of Labor Day. That gives me a good 5-6 weeks of the woods being undisturbed.

RE: Anybody "done"? Anyone going back in?

My #1 spot (where I killed my big buck last year) is so sensitive and tight/thick that I brushed in a ground blind for my recurve , cut shooting lanes and blocked a couple alternate trails back in mid June.........I haven't been back since and won't until opening day if the wind is correct.

Me being in there at all has the potential to completely ruin the spot. I want very badly to stick a trail camera on the only travel route through the thicket but I've resisted the urge.
It will be like Christmas morning..........;)
