Bowhunting near a neighborhood?
I'm building a new house in a neighborhood that is on the edge of the county I live in. There is a lot of wide open space in between the subdivisions out there, and a lot of farm land. My lot is about 80 yards deep, and about 30 yards of it runs back into a long section of woods that runs between the subdivisions.
I walked back into the woods near dusk tonight, and I jumped up deer. Right away, I started looking for trees to hang a stand in. Soon after, I started having second thoughts, wondering if I might piss off any of my new neighbors that might be bambi lovers. I was wondering if anyone else had ever been in a similar situation? Should I grab a stand when the season opens and go for it, or err on the side of caution and back off? I'm torn on what to do here, because I'd love to have the option of a 1 minute commute to a stand, but by the same token I don't want any bad blood with new neighbors. The picture shows kind of what I'm talking about, but the satellite image is old. (I hope the picture ends up in the post, this is the first time I've tried to embed a pic.) The red X marks where the house will be. There is a fully developed subdivision to the north of the X, and houses line either side of the road. There is nothing but woods to my south. What would you do? ![]() |
RE: Bowhunting near a neighborhood?
In MD you cannot hunt (any weapon) within 150yds of an occupied building unless you have permission.

RE: Bowhunting near a neighborhood?
If you own the land, and are far enough away from others according to your state regs. then I'd go for it.

If it's legal I would be out there.

Is that a powerline or gasline?
If you are legal, I would hunt it. The neighbors probably will never know anyway, unless you tip them off. Most non-hunters don't go outside, so who is gonna see you walking out your back door? Be legal, be discreet, but hunt that sucker! |
RE: Bowhunting near a neighborhood?
It's probably a powerline. I haven't seen any gas lines in the area.
I've been digging through my state Hunting Rules and Regs and can't find anything about being in proximity to a residence. The closest they come is: No person shall discharge any firearm, bow and arrow, crossbow or other similar device, upon, over or across any public roadway. Hunting is prohibited in highway or interstate medians and rights of way. No person shall take or attempt to take wildlife from an automobile, or other vehicle, except as prescribed by regulation. Hunting from boats is permitted for small game. Maybe it is worth a call to the local Dept of Fish and Wildlife to be safe. If it is, I think I'm going for it. Thanks for the opinions. Most appreciated. |

In PA it's 50 yards without permission, with permission you can sit on the porch.
If your legal, it's your land, I'd hunt it. It goes without saying, Hunt where the deer are. ;) |
RE: Bowhunting near a neighborhood?
I looked online at KY DNR....I didn't find anything. Doesn't mean it doesn't exsist though.
