Robo-Deer

Anyone heard of your Game and Parks using 1 of these? Its a mechanical deer that ears and head moves, tail wags and is operated by a warden sitting in a hidden spot watching to see who decides to take pop shots off the road. It was in our local paper and they said this decent sized 4x4 is the 2nd one that they have. Its already has 2 bullet holes in it and the other one was retired because it was so shot up. It looks real because it was done by a taxidermist using a real deer. I think it would be kinda fun running the remote and seeing what people do driving by.

The Wardens aroiund here have used one before. Many of the area "hunters" have fallen victim to it, too.

Yea, NJ F&W has one.

I think it would be kinda BORING sitting down, oeprating a fake deer, that doesnt walk, while sitting in a bush, waiting for someone to drive up and shoot at it.

But, if its getting the job done, thats good.
I myself think it would be a great job catchin' poachers shooting at it. It would be a rush!!! And just to see the look on there faces when they shoot it and it dont go down would be priceless!!!!!!

i know our local GW had to get another one cause some idiot wasn't smart enough to realize it was fake and shot it 5 times. she said she had to stop laughing before she could go arrest him.

The guide that I use in Alberta donated one of those (like $3000)tohis local DNR guys to help with the poaching problem in the area. He gets this money from a game fund he started. When you shoot a buck lower than P&Y min gross score or wound (and don't recover) a buck, it cost's you $300. I think it's a great contribution to a great cause. They've already caught numerous poachers with it!;)

Breaching the dooor to a known weapon cache full of insurgents- making entry with your fire team and shooting everything you see before it shoots you while fluidly moving throughout the structure- thats what I call a rush.
Yea DT, I could see how thatwould be the "real deal". Hunting something that's hunting you. Whack or get whacked! You're the man!;):D

pretty commonly used...

i hope to get to run one some day!!!

i think it would be an interesting operation and id like to crack down on poachers. chances of me running one are pretty decint too....

pretty sure it was in PA they had a bust for guys shooting a fake pheasant....come on now...a freakin pheasant! thats a scum bag there lol...

and yes, now adays they are all mostly REAL mounted game animals....and used by state and fed agencies to crack down on poachers...whether its somewhere hunting isnt allowed...to using them at night to catch jacklighters...to putting protected animals in plain view....

it would be a scary moment approaching someone that just broke the law and you KNOW they have a loaded weapon....

In michigan we have roboturkeys too. As my father-in law drove by one on state land he knew it was a trap so he drove a little further up the road, grabbed a big stick, snuck back and went up to the turkey and hit it. The dnr officers were irate but he younger one could not stop laughing. There was nothing they could do. He had a licence. Thought some might get a laugh out of this

Our local club that I belong to donated a robo deer to the Muskingum county Game Warden about 3 or 4 yrs ago. It wasa bedded down buck that had a 120" 6pt frame. There is a law hear in Ohio that the buck can't have more than 6pts or it would be considered entrapment. It was manufactured with a 150" 10pt frame, but we had to saw some points off. I think it ran us around $3500.

Our archery club bought one of the first ones back in the 80s for our Game Wardens, they had some good stories.
I like the one where they had it less than 20 yards off the road during bow season and a guy jumped out with his bow and shot 5 times at it, was on his last arrow when the wardens started laughing so hard they had they could not take it any more, said they almost felt bad giving him a ticket he was such a bad shot!

Around here it's like trying to catch bottle nosed dolphins. They're WAYyyyyy too slick to fall to such presentations.

They've actually used this thing in the bottom of the land I'll be hunting, this year.....and the McPoachersons just laugh at it.
