Replacing Vanes Question Help
 

I posted this in technical but thought I would get more responces here I have some arrows that the vanes need replaced how do you guys take them off and get the glue off without hurting the shaft what chemicals can I use on themI am getting these arrows refletched should I just let the pro shop take care of taking the old vanesoff or will they charge for that Thanks

I would just let the shop take them off. But if you were doing them yourself. Just scrape them off with a knife or razor blade then use acetone to get the old glue off the shaft.

I use something with an edge.....but not a particularly "sharp" edge. When I get it to a certain point....I just use a fingernail (and I don't have much in that respect).

As far as something to treat the shaft (and remove any old adhesive residue).....I use acetone.

To my knowledge....I don't compromise ths shaft's integrity with this method. I would assume that your shop would charge you for this service (removing the old vanes). Mine would. It's actually not hard to do, at all, also.

Like Jeff said, anything with an edge (I use a dull razor blade held at about a 10 degree angle to the shaft to removed the bulk of the vane, and you can clean the shaft with acetone. You can also check out the Zip-strip fletching remover

Use a dull razor. Proceed carefully to avoid cutting into shaft. You will quickly get the hang of it. Finish up with steel wool and some acetone.

Sorry [&:]a little more indepth on my awnser than i posted before.
Yes you can take the old fletching off yourself very easily with a dull knife blade, old razer blade,acetone is what will work to take off the old glue.

Thanks for the info guys just called my local proshop and they said there is no charge so I think I am going to let them take care of it.
