When hanging stands and even going when hooking my climber up, I wear surgical rubber gloves. Still have the dexterity and sensitivity without smelling up everything.

mauser06, that's the way to do it! I do the hands in the pocket thing too. It's too easy to instinctively reach out and grab stuff!
Being as challenging as walking is, I tend to keep my hands out of my pockets in case I happen to stumble on something and fall. :D
