High stand or Covered tree stands?
A recent thread got me curious. Do you like to climb high or do you choose to stay lower and give yourself proper cover. If you choose cover what are some of the ways you camo yourselves?

RE: High stand or Covered tree stands?
I like the shot angle from lower(15' or so). I will wire cedar boughs or oak limbs around and above me to break-up outline. You can also wire them to ladder stands etc. Also, if you can get your hands on an old fake christmas tree the wire limbs work nice. Good luck.

i prefer to stay lower and just tie branches on with twine, but i will go up high if its too much of a hassle to cover up the stand

If you stay low, the best cover is always back cover. If you can get into a tree with good back cover, it pays off.

Either way you need cover!
This year I plan to move all my stands that are out in the open into some cover/branches etc.... You need to breakup your silhoette. Whether in a tree or on the ground. |
RE: High stand or Covered tree stands?
I dont like heights, so I stay low with lots of back cover. I wish I could get myself to go another 5', but whhen I do, I get so I cant even move, so there is no way that I could pick up my bow and shoot when the time comes.

Bigdaddy12t---do you wear a safety harness? If you do, try this out. Get on a six foot ladder. Hook up your safety harness around the tree at 6 feet. Let yourself fall. Let that safety harness catch you. Do that a few times and I think your mind will become a little more at ease as you attempt to climb a little higher.
