another kansas buck, age and size?
 

i set the camera out for a week on the side of a trail and got a couple bucks, one was a typical 130-140 and the other was this guy. he has crazy mass around the base, his antlers come within an inch of touching on his head. it is hard to judge how big his antlers will score without another angle, i can't even tell exactly how many tines he has. the 2 small matching drop tines are pretty cool though. this spring i found a shed with awesome mass at this same place, it had 8 points on the single side and the mass at the base was about as big as the palm of my hand, it was a different buck though. i also shot the 13pt double main beam last year here too, it is full of non-typicals.

my question is this, how old do you think this deer is, and a rough estimate on his score? for this area his body and neck seem small, i know there are many more bigger bucks in the area, but we are trying to judge if this one is of age to shoot.

inside spread prolly 18, good mass, lotta tines,tall brows,I would guess 140-145
deffinately a shooter this year or any year!

That thing could have 8-10 scorable points per side or more?

It is hard to judge age from the pic but he "feels" like an older animal to me if that makes any sense. OLder than 3 anyway.
With that mass and number of tines IMO he'll gross 160+ with ease.

Mass will out score width any day! That is a stud of a buck with matching drops. I would be dedicating a lot of time in him.

Shooter in my book. He's atleast 3.5, my guess would be 4.5.

I'm thinking mid 150's. I think he's a 4.5. Lot's of rack there!

I'm not that versed on aging anything like this.....but my initial run-through.....without looking at what everyone else said.....has him at 170". I try to score them all as main fram 8's and then add in the extra points. He's got a LOT going on!

As far as age.....I still feel like anything over 3.5 is a "guess" on our parts.....so I'll just say that he's "mature".

His spread is the only thing not huge on him. Whoever said he was 18" inside was being generous, but he's got everything you need everywhere else.

I can't even guess a score because I'm no good at scoring NTs. It doesn't matter anyway because he is big enough!

If id have a deer like that walk up to my stand when im hunting would be shaking to bad tohold the pin on him. We hardly ever see anything like that where im at.

He's at least a 4 1/2, IMO. A solid shooter in my book.

I agree...his neck is skinny but he has a good size body on him.

As for score, whoever said he is 18" inside is crazy...probably more like 14". Still a great deer, i think will gross in the 150-160 range.

If he had longer beams and another 4-5 of width he'd be a giant but I believe he's a monster

I was thinking 15" max.....but who cares? He'll gross around 160.


As for age, I gotta somewhat agree with Jeff.....though I would say anything over 4.5 is a guess.....

Looks like a 3.5 or so at least with the junk around the bases like that, I bet with a few more weeks to grow after that pic was taken I bet he will be in the 150-60's for sure, he would be a slob if makes it another year

Nice Kansas buck. I think he goes in the 150's. Thats not an uncommon rack for a 3.5 here in Gods country. I hope you get a chance at him bud. Chris
