ORIGINAL: Schultzy It will easily be gone. I'd take it easy on the trail chopping though. I thought it would be an easy "get to "stand. I marked it with ribbons carrying my material, the next day I parked and went in another day, had 3 of us and they found it, I was 75 yrds off. I went in and cleared a trail to it using glow tacks, until I saw a better spot that I was going to move all my stuff to! Lost my trail going toward this newest set of white oaks, and was way off course of where my stand stuff was on the ground. Anyway, got it up, prime location, good 360 degree view, and just as a present for the 5 different trails coming to within 10 yrds of my stand....I split 50 pounds of deer corn. Needless to say, I went in a bunch bringing two sets of stick, my large platform hanger, rope, etc. I would say I went in about 5-6 times since the weekend, camoing the ladder sticks and stand a bit too. FYI, I found 14 mature white oaks within 75 yards. The persimmon frozen pies takea while to thaw out and melt into the ground, at the same time giving that aroma! |

If you do it before season its not considered baiting, its considered feeding. but check with you local laws about feeding and baiting they are 2 differnet things.

Your scent will be gone... BUT.. the deer will probably be walking your trail.LOL I'm with Schultz, I don't like cutting anything, especially flagged trails that every yahoo and stand thief can follow to my stands. The deer will probably use your cut trail to browse for the whiteoaks. It's much easier to find them in an open trail than it is in the brush. Eat the persimmon popscicles.

That is a lot of effort for one stand.....I have about 20 locations ready so far. I will hunt them depending on trail cam results, spotting from a distance, how the acorn crop produces, wind direction, time of the day, gut feeling etc.
I really don't understand why a guy has to place ribbons and glow tacks to find his way to a stand? Use natural markers, rocks, small limbs, ginger bread something if you must use anything at all. If the area is very thick and you cut trails the deer will probably start to follow them. If you cut them right to your tree they may follow them to you tree and increase their chances of picking up your scent left while climbing or setting out attracting scent at your tree stand. I would suggest routing your trail 15-20 yards from your stand and cut past your stand, but open just enough space to slip to your stand without touching leaves, weeds, and limbs. If you cut your trail directly to the stand and the deer follow it to the tree. The deer just may come straight into your tree and exit straight away leaving you little to no opportunity for a good double lung shot. |

I guess you need to understand my particular environment and terrain before judging on the work it took to place the stand. its definately in prime territory, and that was the reason for it being almost 3/4 miles in. This is the place on my lease where the wise men are! |
