Ground Blinds, which one???
I have never been in a ground blind and know nothing about them. I' m 6' 4" and would like to start hunting out of a blind (turkey and deer). The question I have is which blind is the easiest to setup and dismantle along with durability, scent proof, and is spacious enough to be mobile inside even with my height. Also the ability to have 360 degree shooting capability.
Thanks and good hunting!!! jt |
RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
All I can suggest is the doublebull blind. it is the easiest one I' ve ever used.

RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
Dont doubt the Ameristep Penthouse Im tall
and big easy to use and a lot more room and easier to carry on a four wheeler or on back! |
RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
I am 6' 4" tall and I have no problem using the Ameristep Doghouse blind. Heck, I have even hunted in it with one or two other hunters though 3 is definitely crowded.
It is quiet, easy to use, very affective, lightweight, durable and the best part is the price. Cabelas has them for $70 in Tangle camo or $80 in Breakup. |
RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
I also have the dog house and PA is right , cabelas and wing supply are sellin them dirt cheap!! can' t beat that price on a good blind!

RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
I' ve got a DB T-5. No wind flap, quick set-up, and quiet! It is a very good blind, but a bit expensive.

RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
Double Bull is the way to go. No other even compares. I' m 6' 5" , 240. Plenty of room. I have a friend who has the Penthouse. Every time we zipped it up, I was afraid it would tear. I shot my ' lope out of my DB last year and will never give it up.

RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
Mine seems a little tougher then the one you
used, three years old and just as strong as the day I bought it! I got it direct from Ameristep not out of a catalog! |
RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
I bought the T5 from Double bull and hunted out of it alot last year. I will tell you this, if you hunt deer with it you have to use your shoot threw netting. I had a 8 point come in when I left the netting down and he picked me right out. My buddy ended up shooting him on the first day of the gun season up here in Michigan. If you plan on hunting turkeys with it you do not need the netting up but keep the windows behind you closed so they do not see you move. Also keep in mind that you will lose ablut 10 to 15 min. of light in the evening.
Good luck!!! |
RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
I am a big ol boy and I have the Ameristrip doghouse
this ia the best you can buy for what you will pay! Cabelas has them on sale for 89 dollars for the break up camo. |
RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
Thanks everyone,
I ordered the doghouse in Mossy-Oak last night from Cabelas for $89. Wish me luck with my new hunting tactic. If anyone has any advice they can give regarding the blind and or any tricks or tips that may be useful in setting or dismantling the blind, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks and good hunting!! jt |
RE: Ground Blinds, which one???
jt,
Most of my advice on using the blind is just common sense. Do not stick it in the middle of a field or open area and expect it to go unnoticed by the critters you are pursuing. Try to get it to blend in with the surroundings...a field edge or under a tree with some overhanging branches are both good bets. I was somewhat skeptical about their affectiveness but that was dispelled this past season. Here in PA we have an " early Muzzleloader season" targeted specifically at reducing the doe herd. It overlaps with the third week of our regular archery season. Well, this past year I went out, with my bow, and took my buddy and his muzzleloader with me. We both sat in the blind on a field edge...and although I did not really think it was the best setup, it did provide us with the best view of most of the field. At 5:30 pm a lone doe walks out about 125 yards away. My friend is a little new with the muzzleloader and did not feel confident in taking the shot. Eventually the deer meandered closer and my friend took a shot. He missed and the doe stopped feeding and looked around to figure out where the noise was coming from. Do not ask me how but she did not take notice of the strange bush with smoke billowing out of it 90 yards away. ;) So, my friend reloads and takes aim a second time....pooofffff...he shoots. This time I thought he might have hit her because she laid down shortly after the shot was taken. Only later did I find out that she decided to bed down! She seemed to be curious as to where the noise was coming from but did, at no time, pick us out in the blind. So, again my friend reloads and takes his third shot and misses again. By this time the doe figures something is going on so she gets up and meanders back into the treeline. Ofcourse we checked for blood and found none. It turns out later that my buddy' s muzzleloader' rear sight was folded down and he did not notice it...:) The point of my entire story being that a blind can do some really wonderful things for concealment when utilized properly.....regardless of brand, style, etc.... |
