Early Season Tricks and Tactics
Just curious if anyone cares to share on there early season tactics and tricks of the trade. What you think makes you succesful. For me early season can be hit or miss. I run 3 trail cameras all summer trying to pattern and size up what deer I have on the 775 acres I hunt. I usualy try and concentrate ontravel areas leading from bedding areas to either crop fields or food plots I planted. I try to get as close as I think I can to the bedding areas with out busting them and set up my stands way ahead of time with minimal disturbance of the area and then slip in the first chance I get with the right wind. Sometimes it works most of the time it doesnt but thats why they call it hunting not killing.

For me, I will be waiting near the bean fields while carefully monitoring the acorn situation when the season opens 13 Sept. They cut the corn here in early Sept so it is gone before bow opens. Spotlighting is a legal form of scouting here and I will use it to determine the hot spots.

Cool, good luck. The acorns here are really small on the white oaks, so Im guessing they will be dropping late. If thats the case I should have at least a couple weeks of season that the deer are still hitting the beans.

Where I just picked up some land there are no white oaks, so Im thinking the bean fields in Oct are going to be the main food source. Good luck.

I plan employing and trying the tactics that Dan at Blood Brothers Outdoors has used in his "Hunting Marsh Bucks". Its a great hunting video by the way!

I plan to use some things I learned from them as well Steve. Good stuff right there.

RE: Early Season Tricks and Tactics
For me I like to hunt the field edges along corn fields and clover fields and in staging areas about 30 yards in the woods.

In the Texas early season heat I'll be concentrating on trails to water.
