Summit Cables?

When are these recommended to be changed out? Considering the stands have been well taken care of.

Thanks, LT

If the cables themselves show no sign of failing.....there's no real time limit. You can always re-do the shrink tube covering them.....If the cables are in good shape....Go for it.

mobow, I understand what you are saying, but how do you "know" they are not bad? I always look mine over real well from time to time, but I always worry whether or not they have developed a stressed area over time. Just curious as to your thoughts and others.

If you're in question.....Buy new ones. Peace of mind. I dunno, I guess if they're 5 years old new ones might not be a bad idea. I don't know how you would identify astressed spot....

Yeah, you are right mobow. I have one that this will be season 4 and another that I bought used. The used one is the one I am concerned with mainly. I believe I will get new cables for it. Thanks for the ideas. I am not sure on the stress issue either.

LT,
Have you had a problem with the rubber coating getting all cut up on the cables?

That was a big problem for me, and while I corrected the problem by using a Dremel to smooth the sharp edge on the inside of the square tubing, I think I'll have to re-coat the cables to make them more quiet again.

I do have that problem Chief. Thanks for the tip on correcting it. I am also working on a solution to quiet the inner chamber that the cable slides into. Too noisy at times.

I really think that if you smooth that sharp edge and re-coat your cables or get new ones, the new coating will take care of any noise issue while you're strapping it to the tree. I've noticed a bit of noise when the exposed steel on the cables is sliding into the aluminum tubing. Even with this problem, compared to the sounds my brother makes putting his"Brand X"stand up, the Summit is whisper quiet. You've gotta love it.
