RE: What's wrong with this POV?
ORIGINAL: LouisianaTomkat mo·men·tum 1. force or speed of movement; impetus, as of a physical object or course of events: The car gained momentum going downhill. speedPhysics The rate or a measure of the rate of motion, especially: Distance traveled divided by the time of travel. So can somebody explain why one is different from the other? I realize mass is involved to some degree. LT Speed is speed ... how fast something is going Momentum is speed X Mass (weight) get it? |
RE: What's wrong with this POV?
ORIGINAL: PreacherTony ORIGINAL: GMMAT I'm usually one of the ones touting D&DH articles....but this recent issue has an article discussing the advantages to a heavy hunting arrow....and the author says this: "But really, all you need to know about momentum is that, all things being equal, heavier and denser objects traveling at the same speed as lighter objects will have greater momentum. Putting it another way, it is more difficult to stop a heavy arrow, which means it will penetrate more deeply". If you're touting heavy arrows over lighter arrows.....what's wrong with these statements? So Jeff saying it is misleading is true,no where did he say it was inaccurate. If he is wanting to tout the advantages of momentum,he really should mention that even out of the same bow that the heavy arrow will have more momentum and penetrate better than the light arrow through bone.Regardless of the speed of the 2 arrows. |

That is as simple as it gets, Jeff .... I think you need sleep [8D] |
RE: What's wrong with this POV?
ORIGINAL: GMMAT So for "all things to be equal".....we have to use DIFFERENT draw weights OR a DIFFERENT bow. Makes sense....:D "But really, all you need to know about momentum is that, all things being equal, heavier and denser objects traveling at the same speed as lighter objects will have greater momentum. Could use a vw vs a HumV. A golf ball vs a bowling ball. BigJ vs WH.... Heavier vs lighter....all things being equal, heavier and denser objects traveling at the same speed as lighter objects will have greater momentum. |

RE: What's wrong with this POV?
Again, the statement is true,no one is saying different but it is a bit misleading in archery,2 arrow do not travel the same speed of different weight,WHEN ALL THINGS ARE EQUALL.[8D]

RE: What's wrong with this POV?
WHat he's doing is touting ONLY the advantageous characteristics of the heavier arrow.....WITHOUT acknowledging the FACT that the same bow (at the same draw weight.....MY interpretation of "all things being equal"...) would propel the lighter arrow at greater speeds.
At some point there becomes a point of diminishing returns RE: the heavier arrow. Of course the law he references is correct. But, is it misleading to the average hunter/reader. I just stated that I think it is. |
