Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
What time do you see/shoot more deer, were talking lifetime here.
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
PM for both.
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I believe a lot of hunters do not get into their stands early enough in the mornings and chose their entry routes wisely.
The poll should reflect this IMO. |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I would venture my results for seeing whitetail are about the same between both evening and morning.
As far as taking a whitetail.. pretty even as well.. maybe a slight (very slight) edge to morning. But I'd say overall 50/50. |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I have to say I see more in the evening. In the evening their coming out to feed, in the mornings a lot of the deer in my area are already bedded. I'm in well before first light (early in).;)
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I'd say its about 60 / 40 in favor of PM.
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
Just seen a deer in my bark yard, It was not a fawn but it wasnt a real big deer, im thinking 1 year old. Always see deer riding the four wheeler at night in the summer.

AM /// hands down for me ...

RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I hunt alot more in the afternoons and have consitently for many years..therefore I believe my pm hunting tactics are better because I have seen the woods much more in the afternoons.
That being said, I hunted alot more in the morning last year and really enjoyed it. Something about the sun rising is just so wonderful. |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I probably see and shoot more deer in the evening. Last year though, the numbers were pretty even. I intend to hunt more evenings and all day sits during the rut this year.
I think its more laziness too T and don't want to get there ass out of bed. I've been guilty of it!;) Either that or there to ckicken **** on walking in when its dark in the morning.[8D] Other than that, I don't mind walking in after it gets cold and the snakes are hibernating. LT |

RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I see and shoot more deer in the evenings as I have 10 times the hunting time, afterwork and weekends. Mornings are only possible on Saturdays or vacation.
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
PM in bow season...AM in gun season... although I don't hunt with a gun much anymore

I always see more deer, more movement, more activity in the hour before sun up. I`ve actually had the first light show me that I was surrounded by deer in one of my permenant stands.I will however put my climber up on the edge of my dads field were the deer pour out right at sun down, but historicly it`s the am hunt that excites me. |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I don't think there is a noticeable difference in my deer sightings or shootings from the am to the pm.
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
Steve, I don't have a problem rising early, but during the early season, I sure hate the dang copperheads and cotton-mouths around here. Dang I hate walking thru the woods in the dark trying to keep an eye out for these slimy suckers. I stepped on a limb last October, first weekend of season, and it popped up and hit me in the calf of my leg. It actually felt like a snake rolling under my boot before it hit my leg. I about loaded my Huggies on that one. |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I like both but mornings are probly best for me. rick |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
pm
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I'm PM for both but that's also when I get to do most of my hunting...i.e. get in the stand after work. I love being in the tree before the sun comes up. I'm usually in the stand 45 minutes-1 hour before the sun even THINKS about coming up. There's nothing like hearing the woods wake up...especially on opening day!! Come on September 1st!!!

RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
My two main spots are better in the morning based off of the deer travel. One of the spots has great mid day deer movement as well.
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I see - and shoot - more bucks in the AM, but see more total deer in the PM. Mostly a result of the way I hunt I think as I try to target out of the way bedding areas in the AM, outside of the rut - so I see less deer but more often the one I want.

RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
i try to get in a half an hour or more before light heck one day i fell asleep for 40 minutes and it was still dark when i woke up.
So i see more in the early hours of morning. I think as already said some people are lazy get up late and end up in there stand to late in the day. One day i got up late and spooked a nice deer 10 yards from my stand when i went in just after light. |

The poll should reflect this IMO In the big woods I see more deer in the AM than PM. Farm country I see more in the PM. Hope this helps. During the rut I like to wait until about 8-9AM b4 I get to stand. That way I can sit during lunch....... see more bucks this way. But hey thats just me. |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I'd have to say evening, But do to work, thats primarily when I get out.
The "experts" disagree and say Morning is best especially pre-rut. So basically I say anytime you can get to the bush is the best time! |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
AM no question
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
50/50....... depends on the time of the year.
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I see alot of deer in the morning in my area. Funny thing is I have never shot a deer in the morning ! I actually prefer the morning hunts over evening.
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
60/40 in favor of the mornings.
am travel routes to bedding pm travel routes to feeding |

Ok, here is how it goes, your riding along and then you see multiple deer running away, the deer arnt afraid of the noise here but when they see its a four wheeler they run away, dont ever get closer then 30 yards but I see them run away. |

But I'd say overall 50/50. Of the 5 bucks I've shot.....3 were evening.....2 were morning. The best 2 were shot in the morning......about 40 yds apart.....two consecutive years. Until I found a really good morning spot, my sightings were likely 90/10 in favor of evenings. Yeah....my bestmorning spot is THAT good.;) |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I see the most in the evening...but I've killed my biggest in the AM
|
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
i usually see the most between sun up and 10 am. i see a few groups throughout the main part of the day and then i see some at night. but most in the am

RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
Like someone else stated, I think that most hunters don't see as many deer in the mornings because their set up isn't a morning set up. They use the same tatics as they do for an evening stand and the two simply aren't the same.
I used the be the same way until I stumbledupon the correct morning set up. Now I rather hunt in the mornings than evenings anyday, for two reasons. 1) Itend to see more deer. 2) Ifyou do shoot a deeryou have ALL day to worry about tracking it. I hate tracking adeer at night. The only "down" sideI've seen about morning hunting is that its some times hard to stop the deer for a shot because theyhave one thing on their mind and thats getting back to their beds. |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I hate the morning hunt, get up too early to go out and wait to see, then the deer only move for about 30 min, then nothing till late morning or midday, and then the late afternoon move to the night. I would much rather sleep in and go out around 930am or 1030 and sit till 1pm or 2pm, depending on the day. or just be out by 2pm and sit till dark. I will see more bucks durinng the day and pm. the rut is different so this would be normal season.

A good morning stand isn't a stand on the side of a field or a stand watching over a food plot or feeder. A good morning stand is a stand right along the edges of the bedding areas. Between the food and the beds. The best places are usually creek bottoms or lower land with thick cover. Places that the deer feel comfortable enough to be walking through in day light. I personally think that deer use funnels more during the morning than they do in the evening. I used to be 100% like you until I learned to hunt true morning set ups. |
RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
I know you are correct, and I have moved around to different area's on my property and it is the same. I always have huge corn fields around me. when they are up it is pointless because the deer use the corn for everything and do not need to come out. so then that is where i find the water, and it still is the same.

RE: Do you see more deer in the AM or PM.
PM without a doubt. Mainly because I hunt every day after work so my evening hunting far outweighs my morning hunts.80+ afternoon hunts vrs 15 mornings.I can only hunt mornings on Saturdays because of work schedule. MD does not allow hunting Sundays which to me is abssurd.
