Maybe western Pa.?

Navigating the Pa DNR website is a pain. Can anyone tell me if there is an open bowhunting season in western Pa. in late December? I may make a trip to eastern Ohio for a Christmas visit and I want to hunt . We will be there for about a week. Whats up in western Pa that time of year? Can I buy a tag over the counter? Am I better off staying in Ohio? Who shot JR?

Our late season opens the day after Christmas but if you want to know the truth Greg, the deer are few and far between and very, very, very, very, very spooky unless you get a piece of prime realestate that they were chased for 2 weeks straight.

ps. the late season overlaps with flintlock muzzleloader.

I don't know seasons but Greene, Washington, Beaver counties are under antler restrictions of 4pt on a side (I think). My parents live there and have wanted me to visit and they would even find me land. But I think that you can hunt with a bow during firearm season. It's been a while since I hunted SW PA but I am going to look into it.

Greg, I'm about 3.5 hours into PA from OH. Your welcome here.

So public land during that time for a bowhunt will be more like a nature sighting sit than a real hunt?

I'll see what happens as plans get more concrete. Thank you Rob, once again that is more than generous. I'd love to take you up on that if this whole plan comes together.

Don't know much about PA, but I know on public land in OHIO, you'll be competing w/ MZL after Christmas, but if you have some nice quiet private land that hasn't been overrun by the ORANGE ARMY, you may be able to do decently. Just don't try pulling one out of the woods by the antlers at that time of season if they feel at all loose!!! I have an encouter with the nicest buck I saw all season on New Year's eve morning last year!!!!

public land late season i wish you best of luck. i hunt private farms here in franklin county and the deer surely arent the same after running away from bullets for two weeks. but a day of bird watching is better then a day at work..... atleast it would be where i work:)...[:@].:(

I love those seeing those trout. When we visit my buddy who's a PO in Bellefonte we always go down there. TX your best bet is private land or getting enough people together to put on some drives.

Man we should try and get together, depending on how my taxidermy season goes and how the weather is. Last time I went to visit during Christmas, I was coming down the mountains in WV in 4" of snow and no other tracks at all!! Scary as all get out. But it's a definite possibility.

Bellefonte is all over this thread, my wife's family lives on the hill above the hoffbrau. I usually tote the smokepole after christmas. Last year I hunted at a quarry down 550 by the 220/26 interchange. Where I hunt the deer are few and far between after Christmas and are pretty skittish.

Txjourneyman, you'll have to have passed a hunter safety course to hunt in these eastern states. I know you Texas boys just pack and shoot whenever. LOl I don't know what part of Ohio you're in, but the Maryland bow season runs until Jan 31st. Tons of big woods in Western Maryland free of charge with easy access from Ohio.

Thanks David. I do have my Hunter Ed card though. Someone had to go with my nephew when he took his. I was the only one that cared enough. I'm glad I did too!
