Pre-rut bleating

Anybody try using doe bleat calls when bucks first start cruising and running scrape lines before the chase begins? I am thinking about getting one of those new Woods Wise Mah Mah calls and giving it a try. Thanx guys.

I guess I got my answer. I assume nobody here has actually tried this. A lot of hunters here use the doe bleats during the actual rut, but not during pre-rut. I have seen this tactic mentioned from time to time by outdoor writers, and was wondering if anybody employed it. I've had 3 encounters with mature bucks running their scrape lines, but the only one I had a shot opportunity on I chose to pass on him. I wonder if I had a doe bleat if the outcome on the other two might have been different. Anyway, I am going to give it a try this year before the rut kicks in, when bucks first start running scrape lines.

During pre-rut I like to just sit back and see what happens.;)

In my past years of hunting. I had good luck with fawn bleats. Fawns are still kinda hanging around with mama so when a buck hears a fawn bleat he knows mama is near by. At least that is what I think. But the best call's I use during pre rut is using the CAN call with ratteling sequence. Together it is a deadly combo.

I've never had luck with doe bleatuntil late inthe pre-rut. But you can always give it a try for yourself.

Baybuzzard,

I used doe bleats and buck grunts from the begining of the season right through to the end of the season with astonishing success.

Concentrate more on contact calls. Deer are very vocal, year around, more than we realize.
