RE: Age him now. (pics)
If he walked past me RIGHT NOW I'd let him walk. Great looking spread but he really lacks tine length. I'd say he 3.5
Either way he would be one to be proud of. |
RE: Age him now. (pics)
Id say 4
|
RE: Age him now. (pics)
I would guess him at 4.5 because of the pot belly and his neck meets his chest and chest flap (don't know the proper terminology) sags. His body is full not slender giving him the appearance of short legs as opposed to the deer in the foreground.

RE: Age him now. (pics)
I would take him in a heartbeat!
|
RE: Age him now. (pics)
Going by what i see in my area, killed, and have seen aged (teeth) 3.5 but thats just for my area. nice buck nun the less ;)
|
RE: Age him now. (pics)
Old enough;).
(I'm looking for anything 3.5 or older) |
RE: Age him now. (pics)
Big enough for ME!!!:D I'll say 3.5
|
RE: Age him now. (pics)
Very nice deer.
|
RE: Age him now. (pics)
3.5
|
RE: Age him now. (pics)
From the size of that deer's body and the sway back and belly sag I'd guess him at 4.5.
He looks like a great buck, and definitely has good mass and a great spread, but he may be one that just doesn't get very tall. He'll likely get a little bigger, but he should be hardening up in 10 days to 2 weeks so I doubt he'll put on a ton of inches. Not that it matters because at that size and being a 4.5 year old he'd be getting shot by me no doubt. |

RE: Age him now. (pics)
id say at least 4.5 if not 5.5 look at his pot belly and the way his neck connects to the brisket....thats a mature deer, id shoot him because of the lack of genetic potential and his age
|
RE: Age him now. (pics)
I'm surprised on many of the guesses of this whitetail being so young.
Although it is rather difficult to try an attempt at a solid guess.. clearly the sagging belly shows this whitetail to be older than 3.5 yrs. A 4.5 in the summer also very rarely shows such a pouch.. I would guess him older than 5 yrs. Although maybe not much for antler growth.. they have little to do with age. I would be proud to take him.. not because of "cull" either (I cringe at the term and even more at the miss-use of that term).. but because he's a great and mature animal and at his age will likely beat you. |
RE: Age him now. (pics)
im with huntingby, steven and DM
that pot belly caught my attention REAL quick...id say hes definently older than 3.5...hes got mass and spread and will likely get a little bit more tine length...thats just his genetics...looking at the ears id still say his G2s and G3s are about 6" long right now...i think his just so wide it makes him look REAL short..hes probably 17-19 inside... |

RE: Age him now. (pics)
Iver never been good with age so I'll just say a very nice deer!!
|
RE: Age him now. (pics)
If you don't know how old he is and you initially thought him to be 2.5 or 3.5, then how in the hell do you know the other deer are"older than 3 was sporting at least 130" ???For the record, I'm sure you have better photos and pics of him, but if he's a 10 (I only saw 9, 5 on left, 4 on right), he's gonna make the P&Y, if not the deductions are going to pull him down, but I think he's a solid high 120's when he's finished. And his rack if just about finished growing, he's not gonna add many more inches. Duke was right on, that deer is AT LEAST 4.5, but I'd bet he's 5.5 or maybe even older. He may be PAST his prime, which makes him that much more of a TROPHY.
|
RE: Age him now. (pics)
I shouldn't / wouldn't / couldn't let him pass unless you have bigger deer in the area.
I would give him 4.3 or 5.3 years old. |
RE: Age him now. (pics)
well ohbowhntr, the thing is in person it deer looks much young then in this picture, granted he was in tall grass his face just looked so much younger, Right Droptine?
