Heart and Liver
 

How many people here keep the heart and liver? I really enjoy these fried in onions and butter and so do my wife and kids. Theres been many a time I have walked up to someone gutting a deer and they leave these behind, they do not go to waist though, I carry extra plastic bags with me at all times while deer hunting.

I keep the liver but not for myself. I keep it for my Wired Haired Dachshund for training practices.

I eat them. Most that respond, however, will tell you they don't eat the "guts". I don't eat the livers from older deer. Each to his own.

I have ate the heart and liver before and although i thought it was ok i must admit i usually am guilty of leaving it behind. I hunt in otsego county ny, not too far from where they found some wild and captive deer with CWD in oneida county. I heard that in areas where there could be CWD to not eat internal organs. I'm sure all the deer i have shot have been fine, but i'm just a little paranoid i guess haha

I usually can't keep the heart cause there is such a huge hole in it:D

I keep the heart fairly often but never the liver. I just dont like the idea of eating an organ that removes toxins and waste products from the blood[:'(]

I take the heart of each deer i take and give it to a hunting buddy of mine. Me makes up a great stew with them. I have been told to not eat the liver though cause supposedly deer livers done dont clean themselves out. Not sure if that is true though.

I save and eat both. I eat wild liver but can't stand domestic liver. Beef and pork liver make me gag!

There are too many other good things in this world to eat besides that stuff, plus I ain't starving, if I was I would eat it with my nose pinched!
