Antler growth in Missouri...

Wow! It has been forever since I've posted on here...

Question for you all. I'm in the St. Louis region of Missouri and I got a pic of a buck in velvet on the camera. The pic is from July 30th and in the pic he's a little 4 pointer. BUT, at the end of his 2 points on each side he has a round knob like the might split again... OR this is how the tips always look. What's the story about when these will quit growing? I've heard a lot but the opinions were either from Michigan or Texas and I'm in between....

Thanks.

Been a while since I posted, too!

As to what the knobs are, tough to say without seeing a pic. I certainly wouldn't
say it's normal. Possibly the start of small 'crab claws'? I've seen bucks in June
and the first half of July with what your describing, but that was much earlier
in the 'growing season'.

I believe for most bucks antler growth is just about finished. I've taken pics of
bucks peeling the last week of August, though the majority will carry velvet
into Semptenber.

...by the way, this is coming from southern Iowa/northern Missouri;)
