socks and gloves
 

hey guys i am getting my boots figured i would order some socks for cold weather hunting.
My boots are new balance 1200 gramm goretec boots. i would like a sock that wicks the sweat from my feet i sweat alot.
Also when i was in my stand last year in reg shoes my feet was the first to get cold then my fingers. should i get a insulated sock such as a wool sock to or is the 1200 enough.
I am in southwest Indiana Sullivan i will not hunt if it gets under 20 usually it is around 20 to 40 but in dec it can get down to the 10s
also what kind of gloves would your recommend for cold weather hunting

You can't go wrong with wool. It keeps you warm wet or dry, good cushion for your feet. If you get itchy, use merino wool next to your skin. There's nothing warmer. I'd recommend wool for gloves as well. I do 99% of my cold weather hunting in pairs of army surplus wool gloves. But if your hands get cold, have a set of mitts with hand warmers to slip over your wool gloves. You can always slide them off to take a shot and still have your gloves on.

I like to wear a pair of dress socks, then put on the wool socks. The dress socks keep out moisture and the wool will help keep your feet warm and dry.

Wool sock for your feet and i like to wear thin light gloves on my hands. Gives me a better feel for my bow and release. When the weather gets real cold i bring a muff with my and keep my hands in it until i'm ready to shoot.

My feet used to be the first thing that got cold.
I bought a pair of Rocky boots 1200g insulation a half size too big. I recommend a pair of polypropylene liners to assist in wicking moisture to the next layer which should be wool. Merino wool is my choice. The wool sock should have good bulk (hence the 1/2 size too big). Also, check the wool content of the sock. Some advertise merino wool but only have 20% wool. I look for 80% or more.
If the temps drop well below freezing you may be able to add another pair of wool socks or you might use a thin stick on, chemical foot warmer. I've donevery well down to 5-10 degrees with the polypro liner, 1 good pair of wool socks and a toasty toes foot warmer
FYI..Do not use cotton socks

FYI, Carhartt makes a very warm sock. The A111 arctic socks are 88% worsted wool and have decent bulk. They are $14 on the website. I actually found them at a Gabrielle Brothers last year for $3. I bought 6 pair. I would still buy them at $14 if i had too.

Under Armour makes good socks. I wear them Ice fishing, works great.

they make a liner sock, but its like an "coolmax ultra liner" the make the regular and the ultra, the ultra is what I have and they wick more/faster, also come in like crew or calf height, I like the calf height, more wicking I figure and gets it further away from your foot.

Then I try to have a wool sock over that.....preferably merino wool.

*if stand hunting, 1 trick I do is walk out in just my liner socks, then when in stand or at my stand i"ll put on my woolies for the long sit.....
