RE: Deer Attractant Tests
Supermax results: 56 deer: 39 adults: 20 bucks: 19 does: 10 minutes was the longest any spent. None of the bucks I have photos for were shooters. This may because the previous landowners rode atvs around all the time and there was a party spot close to what I declared a deer sanctuary. It will take time I am sure to "grow" some big bucks here. The longer the sanctuary stays quiet and unspoiled by man, the better it will become, I think.
Also went back and looked at all the pics and came up with a 3:1 ratio for deer heading out of the sanctuary to deer heading back in. As there were 3 times more pics in the evening time as there were in the morning. I suppose they stop by for a snack and then on their way back, their stomachs are full. The week I had a camera on the Buck Jam, nothing happened. In fact nothing happened until this last week. Where the Buck Jam was placed is now several small holes in the ground. I don't know if the extremely hot weather this past week had anything to do with it or not. The totals and averagesI got for the whole "Test" so far are: Total Deer: 141 Average per attractant: 28 Total Adult Deer: 107 Average per attractant: 21 Total Young'uns: 34 Average 7 Total Bucks: 34 Average 7 Total Does: 73 Average 15 Average time at the attractant: 5 minutes Total Evening Deer: 107 Average 21 Total Morning Deer: 34 Average 7 Anyway, put out some Xcellerator 360 this morning. We'll see what happens there. |

RE: Deer Attractant Tests
af hunter - i'vedid almost the same thing last year.what i did is put salt, apple mineral block, and whitetail addiction a couple feet away from each other but all in view of the same camera and tallied them up. i don't remember the exact tally (it's on my home computer), but salt won by a landslide. i recently did the same thing (it's still going on) between salt, trophy rock, and the 'home brew' mineral lick that is floating aroundthe message board. after one week salt was kicking butt again. trophy rock and the home brew mineral lick (dical phosphate, trace mineral, salt) were doing nothing. we'll see though, it's been 2 weeks since i checked the camera. i'm glad you tried c'mere deer - that stuff is so expensive i didn't even want to try it.
keep the info coming... |
RE: Deer Attractant Tests
Awesome results AF. Keep the info coming!
As for the Supermax. You said it was an attractant. What is it, a powder, a gel, a solid block? I'm guessing it is a food type attractant. |

Just wanted to bring this back to the top. I remembered reading this last season and wanted to try the Supermaxx but couldn't remember the name of it. I thought this was a great thread.

Well, I have used extensive attractants over the last two years, from Cocain Mix, to Ruttin Apples, Black Magic Insta-Lik, Block Topper, Buck Grub, Shake n Take,C'Mere Deer liquid and have used these in conjunction with corn, apples and mineral/salt licks and have had very little success. So why do I buy them to this day?? Because of posts such as these, what seems to be very good homework on your part, minus a couple of small holes and the fact that I am hoping that because of all the ag feilds I have around me in plays into it (Corn, beans, alfalfa). I have several pics of deer walking within 5 yards of some of this stuff and keep on walking, but they are taking down the alflafa now and soon enough the beans and corn so we will see how it goes.
Good job and good post! |
AF thanks for all the hard work and effort doing this study. I often walk past the things on the shelf and alwasy wonder what really works and whats just another gymmic!!! You have really shed some good light for all of us. You did a great job putting all the information and stats together. Being prior Air Force myself I expected nothing less and you rocked it........ Great Job and keep up the good work

I have used the C'Mere Deer w/ the trophy rock in a couple of places this summer... 1 spot has been getting hit hard w/ a bunch of does (no bucks yet) and the other has not been touched... we will see.
The one that has been getting hit has been first light and last light.. they have been eating the stump and ground. |
Trophy Rock is what I have used in the past with good results as well. Will try that deer cocane now though,
cool post!! |
So how safe is it to say that the best results that people have are with Trophy Rock and the Supermax? They seem to be the two that have the most positive reviews?
|
Can't hunt baited areas in my state.
|
I used deer cocain last year and it worked great as far as I'm concerned. I used it late in the season so I don't know if it's better that time of year of what but there were new tracks every day. They didn't care that I was there every day either. I don't have a trail cam but I did take a picture the day after it snowed from in my stand.

Great info AF! Thanks for the hard work.:patriot:

I TRIED ACORN RAGE.it is awesome. but expensive so back to corn for me!(PER THE WIFE OF COURSE) LOL
|
Great stuff AF, I'm doing a little experiment of my own... I got some free Acorn rage and put it over a camera way way way off the beaten trails, I will check it on monday (1 week soak)... I'll post my results!
|
What is this advantage 360 super max? Where can I get it?
|
I have always used Horse and Mule sweet feed, it has never failed me in all my years of hunting. Nine bucks for 50 pounds works like a champ.
|
Any new developments?
Ryan. |
Thats good info to have, thanks for all the work.

I put out some of the acorn rage juiced last week and it's been pretty impressive. They had eaten about 1/3 of the stump and I've had 5 different bucks and 3 does so far. The largest buck is a 10 pt (14-15 wide), so nothing really big yet. But that 10 pt found it just after midnight and then came back @1:30 and again @ 5:30. He couldn't stay away from it.

This has been a great thread to read. I am always interested in scientific approaches to questions like these.
Let's see what everyone thinks about my situation. First, some background. - I hunt in SE Kansas, so my rifle season is post rut - My land is probably 60% woods, and 40% pasture. Several ponds and small creeks. - Very heavy this year with acorns and persimmons - There is a lot of hunting pressure around our place. A lot of the sections are getting divided into 80 and 90 acre plots or less with very heavy recreational and hunting use. Not much agriculture anymore, except for guys who run cattle. - I started putting out a corn feeder a few years ago, mostly to combate all the other feeding that is going on in the area. Corn works pretty well in terms of keeping deer on the property. - I have tried attractants in the past with pretty much no luck - primarily apple flavor items. I don't see much sense in the acorn based scents given the woods are full of them this year. I originally came to this thread wanting to read up on C'Mere Deer. It seems I really have yet to read a positive word about this stuff - at least no one seems to have the miracle results that they show all over TV. Not that there is any surprise there. Based on this thread, I tried a bag of Black Deer Cane. I got back into some fairly thick ones, on a known trail. Cleared the ground and put about half the bag on the ground, the other half on a stump. I didn't add any water, and we have been pretty dry here. After two weeks - Im very underwhelmed with the results. The trail cam I hung there had very few pics, and only maybe half a dozen where deer stopped and actually looked at the Deer Cane. Maybe had two bucks, it was hard to tell if they were the same buck or two different ones, the others were does. Yeah - I was hoping for magic. Any thoughts on this? Did I do something wrong, or is it just not grabbing them for some reason? Any other suggestions on things to try? One thing I think might have made a difference, but don't know, is this. We leased our place this year for cattle, and the guy who was running them didn't pull them off until a week into my test. I did get a few pics of cows - which surprised me both becuase cattle are surprisingly nocturnal, and I put it pretty deep into the woods. So, the cows smelled it at least, since I don't think they were down in there before. |
Great information. Too bad they are illegal in NY
