RE: do you hunt for mature deer only ?
I haven't been in the dark on hunting turning into true horn porn blood sport guys I assure you, but suggesting cutting part of a rack really went bad with some guys.
why ? its just antler, its got nothing to do with oursmarting an old buck ! Schultzy the guys going after Spider bull pay tens of thousands for others to hunt him, they're just pulling the trigger. that aint hunting, so to answer your question, they're not hunting for net inches either, they're just shooting net inches there is a huge monumental difference As a matter of fact.....you might be surprised at how many would pass it up for a lesser mature animal with more inches of antler. question guys - to the mature only buck hunters here ..... you can shoot a known 5 1/2 year old with 160" of rack of a phenomenal known 3 1/2 year old with 185" ...... net ...... which do you choose ? Not right imo that these outfitters are advertising him on their websites. With that animal in the woods lots of people will be willing to spend lots of money to try and kill him. This pursuit will put lots of money in local rural communities. |
RE: do you hunt for mature deer only ?
I find it very interesting that there are folks how can (or think they can) accurately judge the age of a deer while in the field. I killed a 160 2/8" brute this year that my taxidermist aged at 5.5 years, two DNR Biologists age at 3.5 without hesitation and one very seasoned hunter aged at 7.5, all based on the teeth. The bolded part sounds like a passing comment. In any case.....your deer was mature (by EVERY account). |
RE: do you hunt for mature deer only ?
I hunt 1,000 miles away from where I live. I only get 7 full days of bowhunting in each year! It's tough to spend that much money on flights and equipment and time training to come home empty handed. There are some large bucks in the area I hunt so for the first 5 days I pass up anything under 145 inches. On that 6th day, if I haven't taken a buck yet I will get a little "looser" with my limit...say in the 135 inch range. Anything smaller than that and I will get shamed by the locals so I pass up on smaller bucks.
