How far will you take a shot?

RE: How far will you take a shot?
Would you call it unethical to shoot a deer without a scope on your gun? Of course not.Go practice with that gun from 80-100 yards with no scope and you`ll see it`s not easy, then come see me and I`ll put my bow up against that gun anytime.
If you practice enough with that gun you might win that bet but the point is-all this talk about 20-30 yards could be just a lack of practice,I understand a deer could possibly move in that less than 1 second it takes for my arrow to travel 80 yards, but at the same time a deer could hear your 20 yard shot and jump the string as well.

Well seems to me if you are constantly seeing deer out at 60 yards that you ummmm, well call me crazy but move your stand maybe? And for the record, not everywhere in Texas has lots of deer.

Some of you guys need to relize that some people on these forums dont live in texas and all these places with lots of deer, some of useare from states with less deer and if wehave a shot at a deer at 60 yards and are able to make the shot then we will. We dont get many chances.I WOULD NEVER SHOT OVER 35 YARDS THOUGH! just wanted to put that out there

Well I would have to disagree, heres a better story.
At a 3d shoot Ipoppeda 6 inch baloon from 145 with my second arrow and won half the money in the can.The first arrow was 3 inches to the left
I could see the baloon with my 19 thousanth pins.
The guy before me popped it as well but it took him 6 arrows.
my sight was the bottom of the level on my cobra sidewinder
I had previously used that for 150 so I just droped it a little.
Maybe I`ll record a practice sometime and put it on youtube

I can see why this went 5 pages in a hurry. I bet it makes 10 once monday hits.
As for me, I have no specific Max, but I can tell you, it ain't that far. Probably 30-35 on deer size game, 40-45 on elk. I can count on one hand how many shots I've taken at game over 20 yds, & I've been bowhunting over 20 years.

Just put the bong down and take a couple of deep breaths , reality is not that far out of reach.
Stay tuned folks ,same time same channel ,tomorrows shot of the day will be a flying gnats ass in twenty mile per hour cross wind while mountain biking.

RE: How far will you take a shot?
Blaze orange dots and 3-d targets can't smell or hear and rarely try to jump out of your way. I can smoke targets at 40 and 50 yards, but too much can go wrong with a live animal at those distances.
30 yards is my max, and even then it would have to be pretty perfect conditions (wind, angle, deer position/attitude, etc.).
Consider this - if you see a shooter at 40 yards and don't take the shot, you'll be excited and ready to get back out there next time. If you DO take the shot, and things go BAD (wounded deer), how are you going to feel then???
Good luck
