NAW article on Trail Cams
Found a few things interesting. Author is Bill Young....who's got "more than" 14 years of trail cam experience under his belt.
1. He said he likes to put his cameras on scrapes for "in-season" scouting. He says he gets fewer picutres this way.....but he mostly gets buck pictures (which is what he's after). 2. He saysTHEY haven't harvested one mature buck in the last 10 years that he doesn't have on camera. Interesting. 3."The no-flash or infrared cameras are becoming more popular with hunters these days. However, although some hunters may argue the point, over the years I've found that the flash doesn't seem to bother mature bucks all that much. If the batteries get weak and the camera drags, or makes a noise, that definitely will spook a deer 10 times faster than a flash." VERY Interesting;). 4. He's gotten pictures of as many as 11 bucks on one scrape in one night. 5. Older bucks have a tendency to visit scrapes less frequently than younger bucks. They seem to be on a 3-6 day rotation.....but said they WILL be back. Most of his mature buck kills have been on deer taken within 10 days of the last time they were photo'd.......and closest to the spot they were photo'd. Just some interesting reading on trail cams........ 3. |
RE: NAW article on Trail Cams
Thanks for the summary, I'm curious if any of the scrapes are man made?

RE: NAW article on Trail Cams
Make sure to post up the pictures after you check the camera

RE: NAW article on Trail Cams
Besides being 'one of the hunters that argue the point' I really agree with what he says. I put my cams over scrapes just about exclusively after trial and error of putting them over food sources, trails, and anything else) from october to the end of november.

If you can wait......you can take mine back with you when you're down here hunting in Sept. I won't need it until next summer.;) |
