which CLIMBER?

I'm considering retiring my summit XLS which weighs 16lbs for a younger prettier and lighter stand. One thing I don't like about my XLS is that it likes to catch the back of my ankles and trip me. What I want in the new stand is:

1- equal or lighter weight

2- quiet (my XLS squeaks sometimes)

3- ease of use and set-up

4- ease of packing/unpacking

I'm a lightweight so heavy duty is not a requirement. As I said in another post, I don't buy junk but at the same time I don't wanna spend more than 400ish for this stand.

Not sure of your age,(cause its little seat ,and using your forearms to rest on the short seat)but I finally upgraded last year to a lone wolf climber,, it is AWESOME!!! cant believe I ever hunted without one,, light ,easy, packs flat, and can move through thick stuff without snags!and I can adjust it way up in the tree to get its platform nice and flat. (takes some pratice though) and a fall arrest system

I too have a lonewolf and love it. It certainly takes some gettin used to cimbing with (don't go out on opening day and try to use it in the dark) but it is a sweet stand.

Its light and packs flat so i can carry it on my back and then put my backpack on over it. Works out really well. Also its about a quiet as a climber gets...

Loan oops Lone Wolf :) They are pricy but the sit and climb is the best in the business. talk about quite in the tree. Not a sound. and the sit and climb makes it almost too easy.

Would you guys say the Lone Wolf is "sturdier" than the Summit Viper. I think summit needs to address some weight and quietness issues with their stands. Sturdy as they come, but noisy to me. What do you guys say?

equal or lighter weight
If the bar is set at your 16#'s.....you're SOL on most of the choices here.......except gri22's;)

I think my Lone Wolf Alpha is right in there. I didn't care much for the sit and climb model. Super easy and quiet to set up. Packs very flat. You may want to take a look at it.

I hunted out of Summits for years and years, and still have a Cobra and a Viper. My Lone Wolf hand climber is just as solid as either, is lighter and folds flat.

OK I believe I'm sold on the Lone Wolf though I don't like the idea of the "sit and climb" model. I've been looking at some stands online and there is an

Alpha hand climber treestand for $329 and an Alpha hand climber combo for $307

Now I have 2 questions,

1) what else is different about the more expensive one other than you get a sit and climb strap whereas with the combo you don't?

2) is it just that pictures are deceiving or is the "combo's" seat thinner in profile?

I used a lone wolf hand climber for a couple years, then I got the summit open shot, its just as lightandclimbs much better. Istill have the lonewolf but never use it any more.

NOBODY can take my Lone Wolf climberfrom me. NOBODY!! I wouldn't hunt with any other stand. I even went out and bought an LW Assault hang on as a back up. Now I've got the complete package. There's the best, and there's all the rest.;)

I really like my Summit Openshot. Its light (14 lb) quiet, comfortable, and easy to use. And it only cost 200.00!

My lone wolf is sturdier than my Summit, I think the lone wolf is the most overlooked stand on the market due to its price.

RE: which CLIMBER?

I purchased my first climber last season at the suggestion of a very well respected hunter/friend of mine. I purchased the Lone Wolf hand climber and absolutely love it! He told me everything about the Lone Wolf and even brought it to work and showed me all of the features. I bought one within the week.

I was able to use it 10-12 times last year and ended up loving it. Since I was fairly new to the climber's, there was a learning curve, but once I learned all of the intricacies of the stand, I was good to go. First thing I did was buy some "padded" camo tape and just taped a few areas that my boots may scrape when climbing/descending. Then I bought a small handsaw in a sheath and strapped it to the bottom side of the seat for those small limbs that I encounter when climbing. I also purchased the longer traction belts that now allow me to climb even larger diameter trees.

Invest in the Lone Wolf and you won't be disappointed.
