Do you think it is fair?
 

In California we can' t use mechanicale braod heads for deer, but where i hunt it is realy hard to get a deer even a doe. There is probably an average of 5-8 deer taken of the Laguna Moutain in a year you think that they would make it a little easier. So my question is do you think that is fair?

Hey b-rice I am stationed here at Camp Pendleton California, and as far as not being able to shoot mechanicals hasnt made archery hunting any harder for me. I am from PA and I shot mechanical for the past 6 years, but switching to fixed wasnt that big of a deal. I still shoot as accurate as my mechanicals. As far as do I think it is fair I dont know what you are talking about. I had a lot of succsess last year in north coastal area in CA. Maybe it is time to move to a new area. Where exactly are you from and what areas are you hunting in CA?

Have you ever heard of San Louis Obispo? I hunt up in that area and have had some luck.

But that is a long drive for a day of hunting or even a weekend

I do not know if this is really a question of being " fair" or not. If you are asking me if I think there is any basis for the law then my answer would be " I don' t know" as I do not know their justification for it.

However, if there reason is simply that mechanicals are not as effective in taking game then my response would be " Phooey!"

Just exactly how would mechanical broadheads make taking a deer in that spot any easier? If you don' t see animals, you ain' t gonna be shooting any kind of broadhead at them anyway. Instead of worrying about some piece of equipment not being legal, you should concentrate on hunting harder, scouting and finding where the deer are.

I' m with Arthur. Besides that, it doesn' t matter if you think it' s fair.... it' s the law so live with it. I can use mechanicals here but prefer to use fixed.... because I think they' re better killers.

You' ve got a lot of things to worry about when bow hunting, not worth even worrying about the stupid law. I don' t like to see people over-restricted, but using a mech, by no means makes it any easier to kill a deer. There are plenty of good fixed heads out there, pick one and shoot it. GO scouting and find a good spot.

I also lived in Chula Vista, Ca. for awhile (24 years to be exact). I found it easier to plan hunting/family visiting back here in Pa. A friend was going to take me bow hunting pigs near San Luis Obispo but everything was posted at that time and the outfitters had it locked up. I drove 165 miles one way to hunt pheasants in Imperial Valley.
I don' t think mechanical broadheads have any advantage over fixed blades on Laguna. The deer are scarce and that is the real issue.
