setting in a spot pre season
do any of you guys set up in your stand or blind before season to see what there doing which trail they realy use which way there going to walk
I will be getting my pop up soon i thought about setting up at my diff spots and checking things out do the scent killer thing and everything just not during hunting season maybe take the digital camera with me or am i just crazy |
RE: setting in a spot pre season
I did that last year. In my experiance I just found it to be extra pressure placed on the deer that is totally uneccesary.
I won't be doing it again this year, if that answers your question. |
RE: setting in a spot pre season
I do if Im not sure about that particular spot. Not all of us can afford trail cameras and such so we have to do rather go out opening day and not be sure of your setup.

I wont hesitate to move a stand, but I'm not a big fan of moving my ground blind around.Once it is in place, I may tweak it a little, maybe [:-]

RE: setting in a spot pre season
Hell, I try to wait for a rain storm to hang a stand to keep my stink and intrusian down. No way am I sitting there stinking up the place and spooking some doe before I can kill something.

RE: setting in a spot pre season
Last year a guy I worked with kept coming in with pics of nice bucks he was watching from his stands before hunting season. He thought it was going to be a slam dunk. NOPE!

RE: setting in a spot pre season
I really don't mess too much with my woods. I use the same few tree'sfor my stand, and know pretty much all I need to know about my area.I may cut a few small branches to clear some pre-existingshooting lanes, but I won't climb a treeand sit to see deer. The only exposure my area will really get is when I hang my trail cam, and that only gets checked every 2 weeks. Other than this, I stay out of my hunting area until I'mready to hunt.

RE: setting in a spot pre season
I have set up in an area to scout. depending how much you go would depend on how much pressure you put on the deer. Practice scent control would be best and dont make it your everyday lunch spot you should be fine. maybe them getting an early wiff of you will be ok they may write you off as harmless. But of course you want be very limited in your trips out especially in the summer heat. just my opinion.
