David, that really does make some sense, I always wonder why I don't put two and two together like that more often.

Ask Germ if baiting deer on my land would be effective?;)

I hunt 700 acres, probably over500 in either corn or soy beans.Does anyone really think a feeder setup that throws a little corn on the ground in a concentrated area going to attract deer in daylight hours?

Tried it,have 2 feeders sitting in the woods right now that haven't been turned on in atleast 3 years. No daytime activity and the few that tried to come to it during hunting hours were so alert that getting a shot was almost impossible.Of course, these animals are heavily hunted and about like public land deer.

That being said, there are definately areas that they are a huge advantage, just not where I hunt.[8D]

I will also add that we have set cameras up on the feeders and we just didn't get that many pics of deer.A few but now many and the ones we got were YOUNG.

I agree,it is really area dependant and hunting pressure dependant. If though you could get a highly attractive food source into a non pressured area,I would venture to guess you would have regular visitors within 2 to 3 days max.
Very mountainous by me with absolutely no agriculture to speak of,no alfalfa,no soy beans,no standing corn. These deer are browsing or eating acorns. When winter hits in a poor acorn year I believe you could pull them for miles.
Given our topography we have a lot of homes that are deep in the mountains. There are well meaning but ignorantpeople that circumvent the laws by feeding all year round under the guise of feeding the birds or squirrels and you want to see the run ways created by game following that food source in.
There is a guy locally that feeds the bears, dry dog food, lays it out on the ground, says he is feeding his dog's,Game Wardens can do nothing about it.I was at this mans home one evening and saw 9 different bears of all shapes and sizes. What he is doing is terribly wrong in my opinion.(a fed bear is a dead bear)
I know old timers who salt the same stump ever year to draw and keep game in certain area's.
No question baiting is going to be less effective if effective at allin area's that have plentiful and desireable food sources.

I haven't read through this whole thread. I am simply responding to the first post. That being said, I hunt in an area where baiting is ligal and I think it makes the hunting much tougher in all and makes the deer almost completely nocturnal in the areas that are heavily baited. I don't have any objections to hunting over bait. I just don't do it myself b/c it's not the way I like to hunt and b/c it mainly draws does and little one and mainly draws them during low light/poor shooting conditions, if not after dark.
