RE: public land
Never leave anything out on public land....I left two stands of mine out on the military base I hunt(you would think people would have respect) and they were stolen two consecutive years. I will never leave a stand out again.

RE: public land
I've been putting out my trail cam/cams on public land for 6 years, and have yet to have one stolen. I never leave my climber in the woods unless I know I'll be back by first light the following morning to hunt. So, I've never had one stolen on public land. I did however, get one stolen on private land that was cable locked![:@][:'(][>:]:D:D

RE: public land
Where I bear hunt I leave my trail cams and portable stands out for about a month or so. So far no one has taken anything. God speed if I catch the SOB who does!

RE: public land
Legally I am not allowed to leave anything on the public lands that I hunt. I have thougt about it a few times but don't want to risk my gear getting stolen.

RE: public land
I leave my stands up and put a lock on them.

RE: public land
It depends. I do leave trail cams out, but only this time of year. Come Sept 1st, I take them down. I do have one chainon I leave up because I am confident that no one can get to it, or see it without knowing that it is there.
Other than that, I pack in my climber, or leave it if I am coming back that next morning. |

RE: public land
I never leave anything in the woods that I would miss. I come across a lot of stands and cameras when I scout. I believe it's fairly safe to leave things out in the areas I hunt. I like to leave interesting photos for the guys that have cameras out. Especially if I know who's camera it is!

RE: public land
Here in Illinois, leaving a trail cam or stand out is the same as putting your stuff on the side of the road with a free sign on it.

RE: public land
Same for me, if I know that I'll be back in the morning then I'll leave my climberin the woods, otherwise it's out of there. I've seen other stands left in the woods. My friend leaves his up for gun season for the whole week, but he's in it all day.

RE: public land
I don't have a camera (yet). If I did leave it out, I would put it in an area that I would hunt, and try to conceal it as much as possible and leave it for only 1 night, maybe 2 if I felt brave. Even then I bet it would get stolen. That is probably part of the reason why I don't have a camera yet.
Stand, NO WAY IN HELL would I even think of leaving it out. |
RE: public land
I leave my stands out....... no problems. My buddy had one stolen a couple of yrs back but it was way too close to a road. The only problems I have had with cameras is the bears........ they either steal them or play around with them. Maybe schultzey could tell me how he gets the bears to leave his alone

RE: public land
what i thought about was getting a security cam small one infer red
a portable dvr and a solar charger for a small battery hiding the dvr so as it would be near impossible to find then just mounting the cam above the stand leave it run 24/7 and if it get stolen just get the dvr and call the law the cam is wireless so you could hide the dvr anywhere out of sight within like a 100 feet heck go 20 or 30 feet over your stand and mount in the tree no one would even be looking up there i would guest it would cost say 150 bucks to set up or if i had my own land i would buy the sercurity cams that run online and send it to my home computer ORIGINAL: sandilands I leave my stands out....... no problems.
